The only thing this new logo has going for it is the brighter green color scheme. I agree with a lot of you, the sideways M seems to serve no purpose.

I'm not crazy about the font on the original logo, but at least the overall logo is more relevant to an animal channel than a bunch of jumbled letters.

The old one was definitely dated, but good logos always evolve to fit the audience/changing times. They should have worked with the old one, maybe did something with the elephant - because he was a great mascot! Just like how the WWF has the Panda, Animal Planet had the elephant. They could have at least played up the 'Planet' aspect. All type just looks funny compared to what we're all used to.

I don't get what they are trying to do with the sideways M, an open animal mouth...it doesn't work. The I and M almost look like a giant B in the middle of the word. This is an example of an idea not having any foundation or connection. The arrangement of fonts is fun and looks contemporary and interesting but what is the point?

The tilted M to me seems a rather forced approach to include some type of symbolism in the logo. Big companies and organizations tend to prefer logos that feature a certain symbolism. But the way the idea is put to paper seems neither subtle nor ethically digestible to me.
