Wacom tablet

i donno, i think there is a reason why every design studio i have ever been in uses wacom tablets. I would just stick with what works, cough up a few extra bucks and you will be satisfied for a long time.

I agree, you get what you pay for, right? I have the intos3 and I love it. I have the 6x8 and it's perfect for me, small enough to still fit in your lap but big enough to fit all of your design needs. Mine was $300 plus BUT I made that money back with my first design using it. It's durable and does have great support. I think every designer should get one. When I was purchasing mine, the lady in front of me was purchasing the Bamboo for her 8 year old, seriously made me feel better about my decision.

I'd love to upgrade, even try a more serious tablet.
My son purchased me a "no name" tablet off ebay. I really like it and it works well with many options. So far it's perfect but I have nothing to compair it to. But he only paid something like $50- 60. has about a 5-6" area on it w/ maybe a 4.5" drawing area on it. I'll try and find a link to it or get it from my son when he gets back. might just be a good introduction one to set up for the real deal. lol

A friend of mine bought one just like mind on e-bay except he paid $260 less. These things a tough and built to last. Buying them used is a good deal. A lot of people probably buy them thinking they'll use them then never do. I'd like to upgrade from the Intuos3 to the Cintiq but I'll need to put in some more work for that lol.

It's nothing like a Wacom or anything but it does work and I've been able to do somethings with it. just haven't given it the time to play with it yet.
There is another one that a little bigger for about $10 more dollars.

This may be one of those.. "you get what you pay for" deals but so far so good. I'll try to get some drawing time in on it and let you know how it goes. I just have a hard time getting rid of the paper and pencil.

That's what I love about the tablet. It feels more natural like drawing with your pencil and paper. I still draw with a sketch book sometimes, scan it in and recreate it with the pen tool. It's made learning Illustrator easier for me. Better control.

My newest tablet is a used 6 x 8 Intuos2 I found on ebay for $100 - it's absolutely perfect! I'm a full time freelance illustrator and use it everyday. I've used a tablet for about 10 years now and have found the Wacoms to be unmatchable. The nice part is that you can always get replacement parts from the wacom website (I've worn out a couple pens...also, if you order from wacom, be sure to throw on an extra pack of nibs...they're cheap, but it'll save you on shipping if you order something with them.)

if you want to just try it out - you could get a used graphire for CHEAP on ebay. The sensitivity isn't as great, but it will definitely give you a feel for using a tablet.

get the biggest and best you can afford...wacom seem reasonably unchallenged in the world of graphics tablets so you cant to badly to go with them, i use many different types of wacom at work/home and play

Last year, I upgraded to an Intuos3 6x8. I use it to draw my editorial cartoons, and T-shirt designs. (Some logos too.) It provides a chance to create something truly original.

I like the zoom feature. You simply swipe this little bar with your finger and it zooms in and out for you. You don't even need to put the pen down.

Worth. Every. Penny.

Plus, I can write it off as a business expense.

a Bamboo? or just a used one? I have a used Intuos2 that I use for EVERYTHING and it's very accurate. You may just need to calibrate it and/or adjust the line sensitivity in Illustrator/Photoshop.

In Illustrator, I have it set to be accurate to within 1 pixel. If I set it at 0 pixels, it made too many points for my liking - but it follows my strokes exactly. Really couldn't ask for anything better.

Buy an Intuos3 or 4 stuff in a6 size...

just practicing hard the painting tutorial on the website, and you become a master of digital painting

I used to love my old genius tablet, but recently it gives me a lot of problems, the pen is not that durable and the tip is now working funny. It's usable once in a wile when magic happens and it doesn't shake all over my screen. Looking forward for a wacom intuos

I use a Intuos3 6x11 and I love it. I have used a bamboo fun and if you are on a budget it is a good alternative, by I love the Intuos 3. I got to use one of their monitors for a few days from a tech dealer. It took some getting use too but it was a lot of fun. I prefer the intous still because my are would get tired drawing on the screen all day.
