    15 Signs You’re A Bad Graphic Designer

Here is something interesting I came upon - an article that is called 15 Signs You’re A Bad Graphic Designer. Here is the link:

    15 Signs You're A Bad Graphic Designer

It should be called "15 Signs You’re A Bad in Typography" if you ask me, but the rules described there should be really known by any designer working with text.

Good find! Maybe not that exact post which, while being interesting wasn't near as interesting as a lot of this guys articles.

p.s. I agree about the name.

I want to talk about the rest of his articles so I'll start a new thread so I don't take this one off track.

Some how I agree with Helvectica I have the fonts but actually have not used it on any design, it is a great font but seem not really useful.

    Thumbs down I disagree...

Following somebody's rules makes you a bad designer.
Breaking rules makes you a badass designer.

I personally don't like putting "rules" on design. What if all caps look good somewhere, or if center align looks good, or if an underline looks good?

    Just my 2 cents!

joebatalla, those are not "somebody's" rules, those are common typography rules that one should keep if they want to keep the text readable, looking good and looking professional.

Especially when it comes to the examples you have given - all caps and underline are very outdated, unreadable and most of the cases look awful in text. If you want to underline something - use italic; if you want to put all caps - use open type fonts which have smaller all caps letters that will not "shout" in the text as the regular all caps would do.

Of course, there are always exceptions and cases when rules can be broken for a better result, but generally - break them always and your design will look unprofessional at least.

    Smile I understand

Don't get me wrong, as a guide it's cool, and yes underlines and caps and center-aligns are outdated. But to a certain extent. Maybe if he did name it "15 Signs You’re A Bad in Typography" I wouldn't find it so offensive.

I'm saying just because Jane in D.C. used a certain font, or an underline, doesn't make her a bad designer. My namey little logo I use with the BAM! style font is all caps, and I think it looks cool.

I mean, according to that post, whoever designed this website qualifies as a bad designer. Yikes!

I just think an open mind goes a long way in design, and that article is not. It seems more or less to me like that's his style, and that's fine. But putting the label "Bad Designer" on someone who disagrees, is just plain messed up, and wrong.

I see why you take it personal . Well, all caps are used in logos all the time and it is perfectly ok. That's why I said when I posted the topic that the name of the article should be "15 Signs You’re A Bad in Typography" - all the rules these apply to blocks of text, and typography is just a small fraction of design.

Does anyone still use Comic Sans? Haven't seen this font for a very long time
