Okay, so I was inspired to post this by DreamSky who originally posted an article from this site, 15 signs you're a bad graphic designer.

You can tell just by this guy's names he's a creative thinker but he proves to be a great writer and has some really great articles in my opinion.

I read 15 signs...

The comments directed me toward 22 Blatant Graphic Design Rip offs, that was pretty interesting and led me to Blatant Design Rip offs or just inspiration, also interesting as well as the site youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com that it brought me to next.

These I thought were entertaining.

I think it's ironic that the link "Why logo design does not cost $5" is posted on this site and talks about how sites like this are bad. haha I think this site looks cool though. I like the thought of competing my designs against others every once in a while.

I thought about that before posting but contests speak for themselves. As a designer, sure you would want a 'sure thing' over competing. As a client, you can see that you're getting the most for your money. Many designers say that contests are bad for buisness. In an industry so full of talented designers, contest are good because, as a freelancer, you get noticed. You're not just another url on Google. People see how you work, think and take direction.

This site is good because you have to earn a position as a designer, the contest prizes are worth competing for and the money is set up to be guaranteed. There's nothing worse than several designers exhausting hours of work to find out no one wins, a design is stolen or the contest is just abandonned.

I had someone fill out a request form for a logo just the other day and put $5 as their budget. Of course I did not accept the work. I replied and explained why. That same person happened to start a contest on another forum I'm a part of, probably where he got my info. Did he get entries, yes. None that I would purchase but still. These are the contests that are bad for business. They make people think logos are cheap. Everyone starts somewhere though and maybe a designer starting out feels more comfortable competing for $5 vs. $100+.

i am sure that in every domain you could find hopeless people, happy to work for nothing lets say....i know students, colleges of mine, that are designing houses for 100E...i'm not going to do that to soon...
i've noticed here standards are quite high and i'm glad...both designers and clients know what they have to do

I agree, the standards here are really high. I love looking at the work people have done. Can't wait to start contributing soon. Personally I don't think it hurts the industry. I think there is a place for a site like this and while it may not be for everyone I think it helps designers push them selves to a higher standard, since that is what is protrayed by others on the site.

well you also have to remember that this site doesn't offer "5$ logos". I think the min. price here is $125 and if you notice those contests don't get a whole lot of entries... while the $300 + get the best designers on the site working for them. after all time is $ and this is a professional design site

Love the fact that at the bottom of the "How NOT to design a logo" article (which has "don't use logo contest sites" near the top of the list), there's a really bad ad that implores you to "Start a Logo Design Contest in Minutes!"
