Illustrator and photoshop definitely for design and fireworks to export slices into html if you have absolutely no coding experience.

I like notepad. Learning the code will help and make you a better web designer. I'm still wrapping my head around CSS. It is tough when you have one method ingrained in your head and you must learn a completely new way of doing things so learn it all!

Go to W3Schools Online Web Tutorials anytime you have a web design code and structure question. They provide endless references and examples for pretty much every language library. You will focus on HTML CSS XHTML... PHP & mySQL for the blogs, ecommerce, and web applications... a little flash is always a plus. Action Script 3 is hot. Wordpess is in big time! Good luck and enjoy the learning experience! If you like design, problem solving, and puzzle games, you will love web design!!

Workshops are where its at...expensive though.

If you're using Dreamweaver, DO NOT use the design view as it can really mess up your code. Use the Code mode instead, it has good color coding, auto complete and it closes your tags for you. Some other alternatives are EditPlus and PSPad, though I'm sure there are many more.

For laying out a website, Photoshop is the best tool IMO, not to mention the industry standard as well; though a combination of PS and Illustrator works great for me since it's infinitely easier to draw shapes in Illustrator.

To learn about design, photoshop, illustrator etc. I would recommend Tuts+ Network . One good article to use as a starting point for design is:

    Hi!

I'm using DreamWeaver for creating the web pages. I use sometimes a little help from FireWorks. And of course I do all the design in PhotoShop!

Good point...the design view has a tendency to mess up alignment and fonts. I use Dreamweaver for HTML documents and notepad for PHP documents.

I'm a little ashamed to admit it, but I learned most of the HTML code basics from Lissa Explains it All -- HTML Help and Tutorial for Kids when I was a teen. It's a very bright, flashy, girly site. A lot of the codes are depreciated now, so I'd recommend W3Schools Online Web Tutorials for up-to-date tutorials.

Type of Progs' I use and A Question?

I primarily use Photoshop CS4, downloaded the trial version of InDesign to try to learn it's inner workings, still a bit confusing, but I like designing album covers, flyers, etc.

I would like to learn Illustrator and more on the Vector way of designing, b/c from what I have learned, Vector programs are perfect for Logo and Corporate Branding design (which right now I use Photoshop to do), but I know it's always great to have an expanded knowledge on other programs.

Flash, I never got a good hang of, the coding really through me off.

I'm slowly learning CSS, but I know there is a huge market for thos that know PHP and Asp.net languages..those I will have to branch into later.

I've done some web layout designs and what not on my own, but as far as coding the site decently in CSS, I'm lacking in that area, except for teh common basics to make everything work smoothly..lol

I do have one question, that I have seen in the forums for the posts that the designers do.

The layout ya'll use for presenting your work, it looks like a layout of sorts, where you have the FLat Colors, Black/White, and Main areas with the PMS information and Client information at the top... how do you go about having that type of canvas to present your work? is it part of a program or what exactly?.. I like it b/c it looks very professional in the presentation of the work done.

Anyone able to answer that, you could please reply to me here, or at my email

MS front page, no just kidding however if you just do it by coding it works well too. But for overal compatibility use Dreamweaver in combo with other Adobe CS for graphics.

You all have more patience, Or maybe it is just know how, Than me. I break out the old WYSiWYG website builder when i make a site. Then all the stuff i make in Illustrator and Photo Shop, i just add to the layout. Type away and let the program code it. By adding your own stuff instead of using those horrible pre made templates. You can make a site look really good. And that program has absolutley everything i could ever want . Even flash.

Dreamweaver has great automatic widgets you can download as well as lots of built in functions and a great text editer that helps a lot with your HTML and CSS and you can also use the WYSIWYG (what you se is what you get) editor it has seems to work better then front page( thought i have used the program in years)

Dreamweaver is the best. I enjoy using Illustrator and Photoshop too to help build aesthetics. I use Lynda.com tutorials along with The Visual Quickstart Guide to Dreamweaver CS3 to help figure out CSS and other basics! Good luck!
