Exclamation Web design question re: image display

I've Googled myself to pieces on this problem, but I'm not really finding any solutions. I'm hoping someone here will be able to help.

I'm putting together a site as part of a job application process (deadline approaching fast!). This site has Flash, hex background colors, repeating gif background images, and one very large jpeg background image. Now, here's the problem I'm having...

On a PC, it looks fine. However, on a Mac, the jpeg image shows up much darker than the gifs and the flash graphics. The lines are horrible. All the other images show up fine, but the jpeg is all screwy. I would use a gif for the background to fix the color issues, but then the file becomes too huge. As is in Photoshop, it's sitting at a quality of 70 for file size. However, even a 100% quality jpg renders the same darkly-colored results.

Right now, the only thing I can think of at this point is to create a lighter image for the Mac, code a PHP browser reader into the file, and have that determine which background image is pulled. Does anyone have a simpler solution to this problem?

Any assistance would be wonderful. Thank you so much!

What kind of program are you using to put together the site? Sometimes the program, like Dreamweaver, has an export option where you can shrink the size and keep relatively good quality...
