    3D tool

I have never done any 3D rendering before but would like to try some software that will not take years of my life to learn.

Anyone recommend a good 3D program, that is easy to use?

Blender seems to be nice. What is important it is free!
But 3d software tends to be more complicated than usual 2d stuff, after all it's one dimension more to work with

never seen that before. There are some good images in the gallery.

I use Rhino for all of my CAD stuff and there is additional software for 3d graphic design and multimedia stuff. it's just not "free" but we all know how that can work sometimes.

But I also have to say. I was looking through the gallery and found Captain America. but it looks like he has a little Frog DNA in this version. still cool though

Some 3D designers can have frog DNA too, so it might be due to that that Captain America came out that way

Thanks for the resource. I love trying new design tools, and especially when I can try it for free first!

I use blender, Bryce, and Hexangon. I had a trial of Maya once and loved it, but who can afford to pay for that software on their own. Most 3-d modeling software is tough to learn and they all seem to be just a bit different so that if you switch software you are back to square 1.

if you want to start SketchUP is the bomb!! It's waaay easier than anything else for modeling, but obviously it has its limits.. the rendering side is really bad but you could "find" VRay for SketchUp which is a bit more limited than the 3D Studio MAX version but it's still pretty damn satisfying already - next step would be 3D Studio and the "full" VRay, but that only depends on your previous experience.

Good forums to get some help and start moving around can be cgsociety.com (even if a bit too "pro" sometimes) and {E}vermotion - 3D models, textures, tutorials, architecture, 3D graphic, vray, 3ds max -

I would LOVE to get more in to the 3D art. I'm using Solidworks ad a 3D design tool sometimes, but it is not very useful for what I want. I have tried a trial version of MODO 401 and I couldn't quite understand how to use it.

What is an easy software to learn on? I might have access to Maya, is this something that a beginner to 3D could grasp? I am pretty well versed at Solidworks and Illustrator.

If you're looking to do some really simple, and I mean realllyyyyy simple 3D stuff for some designs, Illustrator has very limited but sometimes useful 3D functionality built into it.

3d softwares are difficult to learn, i tryed 3dmax and maya, but if you wanna make logos, they are not the right ones. If you ask, how do ppl make fancy 3d logos, then the answere is 3dmax, they render the file, import the jpg into illustrator and draw conform the jpg again what they need, because 3dmax does not make ai or cdr files

I tried 3ds Max but when I heard that Maya is recommended for movies and 3ds Max for games I started to learn Maya. Still it takes a lot of work to do something. I realized that is not possible to make a movie just by my self. I didn't tried Cinema 4d because there are less tutorials.
