    New GM goodwrench logo

I watch alot of Car/Truck shows and noticed a while back the new GM goodwrench logo. I have to say I dislike it and it looks like the power button on my Dell I also thought I'd seen it somewhere else and as they mention in this artical the QuickTime logo.

I also thought I saw a new version with the middle looking more wrench like? But went to their site and it looks the same as below.

Brand New: Mr. Goodwrench Gets Turned On

    dell power button.

    Quicktime logo.

It does look quite a bit like the power button. I like the "old" logo better myself.

I was looking up copyright information and found the site listed below. I always thought there was the 20% rule but I guess there isn't.

I'm so sick of everyone using the 'power button' logo! There are seriously like 5 companies that are using it now (of course I can't think of any off the top of my head).

Also - Goodwrench did have a wrench in their logo for a while, but then they must have just simplified it. I liked it the way it was. I guess everyone needs to be modern.

haha. nice catch coy. i dont really like either one.. though im sure they just want something simple. they should stick with their old one cause everyone and their dog knows it! the new one (with the power button)... if i saw that on the web and didn't know what the company was.. i'd probably just think its some antivirus company

I noticed this, too, the second I saw it. They didn't even TRY on this one. It's very clearly a power button; they don't make any attempt to hide that in the commercials or animated logos. If GM made mainly electric cars or appliances or whatever, it would work. But they don't, so it doesn't.

I wonder what agency pulled this off?

while trying to find out if a outsourced company did this redesign I found this link showing all the reworkings of the "on off" button. LOL Logos using the standby symbol | Logo Design Love

But it looks like GM's designers might have been behind it cause I've looked through several sites with not one person mentioning a different company doing the rebranding?

Another issue I have with this logo is that the power-button logo, assuming it is supposed to be a "G", has very little continuity with the font for the wordmark. In fact, it looks a lot more like the old wordmark. I'm not saying the logo and wordmark have to match, but in this case there are two different stylized "G"s in the same logo. Also, the gradient blue in the logo doesnt really match the wordmark.

Why not used a hexagonal white space in the center of the logo to play up the "-wrench" angle?

That would fit them better and a reworking of the wrench they use to show in some of the ads.

It confuses me, I can't tell if it want to be "C" or what! Although it is much more creative than the power sign knock-off. Nice Concept!

Ohh... I feel like it is a bit to boxy.

    GM Logo

I seem to agree with the lot. the 'power' symbol is tired... other places have used or are using it some where in their logos or marketing. it was interesting early on. I do, however, see some logic behind it with needing to 'restart' an image...but i dont think it is the answer.

considering the industry its in, a power button is a terrible design.
    completely inappropriate for the industry.

I definitely agree with this post. Anyway, designers know what's better but often customers don't. sigh

The dell power button design is used by many companies. why do they stuck up with one design when there are large number of creative designers. I liked the old design than the power button. It doesn't seem to be look like an wrench, where as old one is close enough to look like wrench.
