Looking for an expert to be my teacher

Hi! I'm Gábor Sáfrán from Hungary. I'm a 21-year-old student. In the future I would like to become a well respected Adobe Illustrator expert. D.C.net looks the right place but I don't know where to start. I have basic questions and I'm looking for a person who can spend some time with me on messenger, maybe to be my master and I will be his padavan. Thank you

I'm not on messenger or by no means a master.
But I'd suggest asking questions in this area and do some online tutorials to get you started. But there is a lot of subjects covered on some of the basic questions you may have. If I were you I'd start by searching this site for some of you questions before posting them.
we as a group will help you out as much as possible.

I think it is best to post your questions and get answers on DC forums, that way other members can learn at the same time with you.

So. I see there are community contests. If I want to be a member of the designer team I have to win three of these. It looks fun. Although in the future I want to work with Illustrator I think my first tries will be done on paper. Near that I'm making Illustrator projects based on tutorials I find online. Any advice on online tutorials? Is it worth to spend time with them?

I can only give 2 kinds of advise; look up as much tutorials as you can, and USE the program as much as possible. The best learning comes from experimenting

    X2 What ALX said.

it is well worth the time. As far as pointing you in the right direction. Just google it and start w/ the first ones you see. Once you get the hang of things you'll start wanting to do this or that. then just google it. example= Illustrator tutorials+mesh tool. or Illustrator Tutorials+web 2.0 whatever you need help with in anything.

I'd also suggest messing with it no less than 3-5 hours a day. and you'll still never learn everything.

very basicly said - it's a glossy look.

But it's disscussed on the board a couple of places. Hit the search button in the top left and type in web2.0.

Here are 4 links doing a quick google search. But are you wanting web2.0 for logo's and stuff. or web pages. since there is a difference.

Web 2.0 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    What Is Web 2.0 - O'Reilly Media

    What is Web 2.0 | Web 2.0 Explorer | ZDNet.com

    What Is Web 2.0 Anyway?

If you're interested in logo web2.0 then google - logo+web2.0 or web2.0 logo
in images you'll get stuff like this.

My avitar is kinda web2.0-ish just not as extreme.

I have to say this.... and not to be mean.

I Honestly don't have a problem answering any questions that I can but there is something that I'll always do and that is to encourage people to SEARCH before asking a question. Not because I or others don't want to answer it. But because it's good practice for when you need something and NO one is there to help.

This will give you some skills down the road. one of which is..Alot of times you'll need to research ideas or images for a client but you always can't find what you are looking for with just your first thoughts so you'll need to think of other terms to use when looking for somehting, but these other terms need to be intertwined with one another in some sort of way.

example= I need to find construction images to help with an idea.. Ok first I look for construction.. nothing I saw helped.. so now look for building..nothing.. so then I'll look for building cars or houses or blah blah blah.. oh crap still nothing. So what should I do? give up.. nope..How about heavy equipement operation. bingo found what I'll do. or you could even break it down into specialty field in construction. roofing or framing or concrete foundations the list goes on but they all tie in. and even then there are other terms that people in the field use that will give you results.

When I was younger I was really shy and wouldn't ask needed questions so I had to rely on my self for finding the answers.
Now that I'm older I've found that a simple question put in the correct context is worth it's weight in gold. But the best questions are the ones that take some real thought and if you have some information because you searched it out first you'll be better educated because the information you obtained that brought you to a more difficult question and would have most likely answered other questions you may have had as well.

I already thought it was funny gor someone to visit a DC with the meaning of learning basic skills. Everything i learned with Blender and Sketchup, is done by tutorial. I had a lot of stress, but it pays of! And even if i wanted to explain basics, there are very, very much basics... I wouldn't know where to start, besides "Start your CS3, please"
Oh, and get to know your tools first, that also helps

Adobe Illustrator is a heavy program with a steep learning curve. I purchased photoshop and illustrator many yrs ago and quickly was overwhelmed elements So I put it up. I purchased a digital camera a sony mavica (that tells you how long ago lol) the camera came with photoshop elements( the very first elements) . I played and played and learned that scaled down program. I started drawing and painting in photoshop and decided it was time to open up those spendy programs I hadn't touched in a year. Both programs were still hard but I just kept at it and now work photoshop and illustrator cs3 and would be completely lost without my programs.

When I first started the digital art the tutorials were sparse but then wow what you can find now is unreal! Look up beginning illustrator or photoshop tutorials, many skip beginning tutorials and get overwhelmed fast. Keep at it, you will mess up (alot) but that is how we learn. One way I help kids at the high school with illustrator and photshop is we start with the basics first... document/sizes and formats and such but very important is to learn about LAYERS. I then pick a tool and we learn the tool, the ins/outs can and can't do things like that. One thing to remember When working Adobe products you will find there are MANY, MANY ways to do something, one reason it is hard to learn program.

READ and read and read Adobe products have wonderful help files! People forget to read the help files.

I still do traditional artworkwork pencils/paper, canvas painting and such. I think it is extremely important to keep up our roots!

There are many great designers here at DC, There seems to always be someone here to help. BTW you mentioned the community contests stop by! I alway look forward to viewing designers creations!

search up on the net. start off with simple tutorials, get the hang of the basics first before you move to more complex projects, that way you'll have a solid foundation. You seem to be eager to learn, go and google for answers, it'll help you a lot. Also use the search function here in this forum, you'll find very very useful resources.
    Good luck.
