    Help me please! :) *urgent*

Does anyone know, is there a standard opacity/transparency for a watermark being printed? I'm about to send a letterhead, business card etc and they all have a light grey watermark. I have it set to 8% black. Is that too low to show up when printed professionally? I want it to be pretty light, but I definitely want it visible. Thank you in advance for your help!

what format are you sending the files in? I'm not aware of any standard transparency value for watermarks, but if you plan to send PDF's for proofing, you may want to get an adobe watermark plugin, that would prevent the end-user from opening the PDF in Illustrator and just deleting it...

you can find watermark plugins for whichever application you're using with a simple google search (i.e. photoshop watermark plugin or PDF watermark plugin). Most of them allow you to create your own watermark, and the plugin will apply it to your graphic in a way that prevents it from being removed.

    hope this helps!

I meant for design purposes. I guess I should have clarified. It's a letterhead with the main element of the clients logo watermarked in the background just as a design element. It is an 8% tint of black. Is that what your referring to Carol?

    Thanks everyone!

It all depends on how much you want the watermark to show up. I would experiment a bit with different percents printed out on personal printerDifferent clientes want different levels of a watermark to show or not show.

Yah ... my thoughts are same with Sharie ... i'd present different shades or "opacitynessss" (LOL!) -- to the client, and let them choose that which satisfies them!

    Hi.

I always think it's best to ask the printer who will be producing the finished article. Different print machines produce slightly different results, but I've always found the person running the machine has good tips for producing the best.

I try to stay away from transparencies for water markes, simply because one printer didn't reconize it as a trancparency it just showed up "black".

If I'm doing a water mark I'll use different shades of gray. depending on the design I use anywere from 5% gray to 20% gray. (give or take a few %'s)
Mix and match if the design requires it.

i agree with Coy, you should avoid the transparency. for me it is 100% safe only when used as a bitmap for the final file (prepress) e.g. tiff, eps, jpg... also, i would like to add, no matter what you do always check the match prints of your designs!!! that is the only way to make it perfect!!! (:
