from what I remember from reading it, it was a lot of really good information, but the book itself kinda sucked. Wasn't written very well for a "primer"...I was also way more into art and way less into reading academic showcases - maybe I should re-read it

I have not read the book. My art is mostly illustrative/painting and such. I am working more with graphic design though so maybe it is a book I need to read

i use that book to train young graphic designers. There are many young designers out there with little or no training at all. Without any direction I agree with you that the book could be somewhat useless to someone unless discussions are held. The biggest problem with young talented artists is their use of space. Utilizing this space can either make or break designs and this book really stresses that usage.

maybe, i wonder if it would me not design so litteral. I'm so illustrative and used to designing what the designer asks for in a litteral way, not general or abstract. I have done many book illustrations for folks and they tend to be lets say exact.... same with character concepts. Logo design is a major struggle for me........ I need a mentor : )

i would hate to so critical on logo design as for in my opinion beautiful is in the eye of the beholder but when that logo or illustration is incorporated with text eye movement around the page is very important.......what are you trying to promote. Does you eye go back to that or is everything floating around.
    something to think about.......

Nicely stated. sometimes I'll make and image that is outstanding but you can't add text to it to make it flow nicely. then I'm having to redesign the image or just start from scratch with another concept.
