    Drawing with a tablet

Ive been tempted to get a tablet to draw with. Drawing with a pen is just much more natural BUT the issue im seeing is i make a mark on the tablet it going straight to screen so if i wanted to go to a specific spot id be guessing where its at on the tablet.

how is it drawing with a tablet? how do you find the points on the tablet is all your marks are on screen?

I had a wacom tablet about 12 years ago, so I don't know how much the technology has changed, but mine was basically the same as using a mouse, it didn't make any lines until you found your place on the screen and pushed down on the pen (in the same way you click the mouse). It didn't automatically start making a line wherever you touch the tablet.

what im told the more pressure u add the thicker the lines become.

I may hold out and get a tablet PC one day that way i can just draw on the screen

I love my Wacom version4 tablet. It really comes in handy when I want to sketch ideas, or want to make a design more organic. Yes the harder you push down, the more the line thickens, but it's way more than that, it also senses tilt and rotation.

The tablet senses the tip of the pen at about 10mm distance from the surface, so if you want, you can move the curser around where you need it, then if you want to make a line, you just move the pen tip to the surface and add pressure. <I hope that makes sense.

I still use the mouse more than 75% of the time when I design though, so if you don't do a whole lot of sketch stuff or organic feel stuff, don't bother with it. IMHO.

I have the Wacom Intuos4 and I really can not live without it. I have one at home and at work, this is the 4th pad I have used. The stylus has become part of me. Once you get use to it I do not think you will be disappointed. I am the opposite of Marzac2, I use my pen more than 75% of the time in fact it is up near 95%. Now if you have some extra cash lying around the wacom Cintiq is the way to go, just a bit too much for me. Take a look at it here it is sweet. Cintiq - Product Overview

I have a secret wish, that someone will make these new nice (tablet looking) touchscreens for PC (developed for Windows 7), more usable as a drawing tablet. The price of these touchscreens are getting lower and lower every month, and I`m wondering how much time will be the Cintiq so awesome and so expensive

I'm finding it hard to part from my mouse. We have a Wacom here at work but it is rarely used. I know a lot of designers that only use their tablet and they love it. They all say the same thing, "It takes some getting use to but then it becomes natural". They can't even imagine going back to a mouse.

I use it in the office for some illustration stuff but I'm still not used to it.

I like my touchpad on my laptop cause it feels more correct compare to other stuff direct feel from my hand nothing in between. With tablet I always find it hard to connect two dots with a line. However with a tablet laptop where I can draw directly plus see what I am drawing is much easier cause more correct feel plus I can see what I can drawing.

    Hi guys

i am actually planning to buy a tablet. I read most of the people recommending wacom tablet , is there any other tablet which is may be better than wacom. how would you compare it to drawing with a pencil.

Wacom is pretty much the top of the line. I just looked at the bamboo, pretty intersting cause the thing is also a touchpad.Bamboo isn't all that expensive just 99 euro. If you don't want to have the touchpad just for the pen buy Bamboo pen for 69 euro.

I wouldn't recommend any other brand there are ones from Trust but that brand aint trustworthy cause everytime I had bought stuff from them it end up broken and have to bring it back.

Or try searching second hand Wacom Graphire.

Don't worry about guessing where is it on the screen when touching tablet. I was worried about it as well. Don't be. Just go and buy a good tablet (wacom).
It's more like when drawing with mouse, you know what to do with it straight away. It's a bit different, that's true, but it's not something that you already don't know
You'll see the pointer when you're a bit above the tablet, you don't have to touch it to move the pointer. You can move it when it's like 1 cm above the tablet. It's more like touchpad on notebooks with the difference that you don't have to directly touch the surface to move the pointer.

I've got Genius M712 and it's a very good tablet. But wacom is wacom... so if you have a chance to buy wacom, go for it.

Your pen should act like a curser. You will see your curser move with the tablet pen.
