    This discussion was really meant to be more on an ethical level and less on a legal level.

    Just because we work for the same company, shouldn't give another designer the freedom to take my illustration and present it as part of their own piece. That's the bottom line here.

    I do appreciate all of the feedback. Thanks guys.

    well...my answer was partly intended on an ethical level. Just saying to keep in mind that you are creating work for company-use.

    So the question - you're saying - is what defines ethics? Because I'm guessing what's being said is that, while completely acceptable (rule-wise) to build off of someone else's work within a company, it's not ethical. If the company was made up of socialists, would there be the same question of ethics? Or would the "tweaking" just be part of the group collaborative?

    It sucks.

    I had a logo used by another designer without permission.

    This is almost a sin in my view.. Stealing someones genuine ideas or work without his/her permission.. I hate such people who do it.. Had I been in your place I would never have let my boss leave the matter uncared.. It really hurts when u do all the hard job and an inconsiderate guy sneaks out ur stuff and uses it without ur knowledge or grant.

    That is how I feel about my works.
    I absolutley agree with the 'sin' part, it is made by people with lack of ideas, it happened to me a few times, and I can say I was (quite) upset, but in time you find the motivational side, that they can steal your shown work, but they can never steal your ideas and your mind that can always come up with a better one

    Picasso once said; 'Good artists copy, great artists steal' (Picasso)

    on another note...i like this quote;

    "Always make the top left-hand logo of the website a home button"

    but to get back to the point - i really think it is wrong for your collegue to have done this...report him to your boss...tell your other collegues about it....generally make it uncomfortable for this person and hope they dont do it again.
