Problem Whith Fonts in Windows 7
Hello, I recently needed to re master my PC and I installed Windows 7, thinking that Microsoft wont make the same mistake twice... but... Microsoft is Microsoft and they love to make this horrible product called Windows now in It's version 7.
I have a collection of about 2.000 fonts ordered in folders (sanserif, serif, dingbats, etc.) I installed all the app's, all the drivers, every was going Ok and then... wen i was going to install the fonts, the OS doesn't recognize them, if I open a folder is empty but if y check the properties they are all there...
I red a lot of blog but there are not much info... someone knows something I don't?????? If not i have to go back, not to the Island, but to the XP version.
Now i know I need a mac if i want to be a professional in the design industry i don't want to struggle any more with this things.
My advice... stay with your XP copy and don't make reacher a thief like bill, he doesn't care...

Well, I was having a similar problem. I'm cheap, so I installed Ubuntu Linux. It's not anything like the old linux (where you have to program the screen refresh rate and stuff)... Installing fonts (including windows fonts) is really easy. You can use GIMP for fonts, and then go back to Windows to do everything else
And...
1. DO NOT GET UBUNTU 10.04. The dual-boot (called GRUB) has a bug, and you have to manually install stuff. If you install Ubuntu 10.04, look at this website to get Windows back:

You need .otf's both MAC and PC's can use them. Most modern fonts are made in them now, and all of the older commercial fonts have been converted.

@kooia, I'm very tempted to use Ubuntu and the open applications, but I don't know any one that been really using them so I don't know if they really meet the quality of Adobe products and if they are really compatible with it because I can work in Gimp, but I sure that the printer guy is using Illustrator and I don't want to have problems there.
@noxieCreative thanks for the tip

I have designed with XP, Vista, OSX, and W7. So far windows seven is the most comfortable. not quite as easy as mac, but infinitely more customizable and cheaper in the long run. I really doubt the problem is with windows, probably your font files. are they .otf?
