At my school the teachers think that the helvetica font is best thing that was ever made. They want it on every thing.(posters, flyers, magazines,...)
I find helvetica a good font but not more than every other font.
What do you think of this font?

There is documentary movie all about Helvetica with the same name. It shows all the greatness of this font![]()
I'm surprised that's all the teachers want used. It seems like a pretty one dimensional way of teaching students. It's good to have a sense as to when to use a font that portrays something other than neutrality.
helvetica really has an awesome magic, allways it's suitable everytime and place
It's almost becoming a design cliché though. Like hmmm what should I use.... Helvetica! Yay Switzerland! I find it very good albeit utilitarian.
Maybe we should give Arial another 40 years and see if it gets it's own movie...![]()
I wouldn't say Helvetica is one of a kind. Univers was released in the same year.
I like Hevetica very much too,
but I also like Humanist, Swiss or Futura.
They are all alike
I think Helvetica is so successful because it's maybe the most neutral font you can get. It's timeless and not too intrusive, so you can focus on the content rather than the design. But in Headlines it also looks stylish and reveals a certain kind of character, which no other font has (even if they might look very similar, like in Univers or Arial). I especially like the lowercase »a« because it looks sympathic to me, or the almost closed »e«-form.
It looks modern, even if it's derived from classic font-shapes which is the reason why you can mesh it up with so many other fonts and still looks good. But Helvetica can also look pretty bad in the hands of bad designers, so it's also a matter of typographic skill how a font appears to the public.
Helvetica gets it's own documentary. There should be a blooper reel of fonts...like Comic Sans and Papyrus.
Helvectica is so overated. I have it on my computer but never really use it for any company. Only few times used it as aditional change to my own logo but and video titles. But never used it for any real logo's.
The font that deserves a movie and mostly a comedy is Comic Sans. Muahahaha
I think Helvetica is very serious-looking. Not really suitable for a fun logo/illustration. Also, if you're using it for web design, it looks pretty bad on Windows machines...
I prefer Arial over Helvetica. Both are a lot identical except for few characters. This difference makes Helvetica look so rigid and serious whereas giving a novel look to Arial. Also Arial is considered a "webwide" preference over Helvetica.
Arial is horrible I prefer Myriad Pro at least can choose more than just regular bold and italic.
I agree with Chung Dha. But I don't understand why your teachers would want you to always use it. Helvetica has been used in advertising, signs, and everything else for years I am tired of it. I would think your teachers would want you to decide what font to use; so you learn to find the right font or design your own even!
