    Flash or Java Rotating Banner

Have you all seen the rotating banner trend on major retailor websites. Where the have a series of 4-5 banners rotate though with flash, you can select 1, pause it...

Here are some samples of what I am talking about:
    Welcome to Best Buy
Target.com - Furniture, Baby, Toys, Electronics, Costumes, Video Games
    http://www.homedepot.com/

I am looking for any information that says that this works more than either a static image or content.

If anyone has any information on this topic or how this trend started, please let me know.

    Hello Jesse,

Well Go for Flash, I been using JS Rotating Banners and its always Buggy.. and not a browser friendly, I recommend Flash Den Products, I'm using one of their rotating banner with XML technology Check it here live >> Macomp.com – Solutions for a Smarter World

Flash & JS have advantages and disadvantages, But with the Flash you can Have some sort of effects for each slide, and its only removing and adding pictures dynamically into an image folder.

    Hope this Help!,

I agree that flash is usually going to be smoother, though there are some newer jQuery sliders (like the Nivo Slider: Nivo Slider - The Most Awesome jQuery Image Slider) which are very slick, and require no plug-ins, unlike Flash.

If you are going with Flash, I'd recommend you check this out: CU3ER - 3D image slider!. It is GREAT.

Definitely use flash and use external files that are loaded. The banners are flash itself that loads external flash and thumbnails. Also have and action script to stop wait for certain time and play again.
