Those are all good examples and the article reminds me of what my design college professor once said, "For every idea you come up with, it's been done probably 100 times already."
That could be a discouraging thing to hear but it's true. As Mike Davidson was quoted as saying in that article, "...it is only the virtuous designer who can continue to stand out in a sea of sameness."
Good luck to all of us.![]()
thanks "Stev27"
You have rights,
Many time designers go through the research process,
brainstorming,
sketches,
concepts ......
and their final product is very similar to something that is already available in the market.

Hi,
I found another link for similar logos:
In logo design, when does inspiration turn to copy?Logo Design Team Blog
Amir
Yeah I can make tons of these list of companies with copied logo's.
And sad thing is that I've lost design contests at our other sites, that I would say look exactly like some of these designs.
sometimes there are some logos that look similar but if we look at the details there is little difference.
Ok, Good luck all.
Carrier vs. Ford
Manytimes, its very hard to be truly original. Designers gatter ideas from many sources and sometimes, it's hard to remember that the idea was their own or somebody elses.
That's a bit too insane for me. As designers, being inspired is one thing, stealing is another. I understand being influenced by the same "elements", if you will, that's not an excuse for original thinking. Its our job to research and make sure there is nothing too similar to what we're creating. I have known others who have not only been sued themselves for copyright infringement, but have also gotten that company sued for the work as well.
I think that so much we see ends up in our subconscious. You like something and tuck it away in the ol' brain, and then you truly and honestly don't realize you are pulling from that later when you think you have this genius original idea. So I think many times an idea is not purposefully copied...but I do like what SwimLeka said about making sure you do your research. It's true, that should be part of the job.
P.S. My favorite was the Lakers and the Clippers one. I think it's kind of funny. Aha, a basketball! Genius.
Pardon for my language, but sometimes sh*t happens, like we have been thinking about something for a week or more, believing it as a big original thing, and suddenly it is everywhere, before we had time to make it come true. Even if we did made it come true, it could get worse when the situation make us felt like a plagiator or something.
