I always imagine Kids clothing logos, something more fun with happy colors. I think its very dark and "heavy" for a kids line.

i was gonna do something bright and a little more child-like, but she said it was kinda geared toward teens as well

I would agree with Zuki. Colors are bit a problem. Have you try with original jeans color (light blue/worn jeans), for example... light green shirt, light yellow... not sure exactly. But it's kind a killing your main atribute with logo - which I really like

oh yes, i definitely had them blue from the beginning, but the client wanted black for some reason. the shirt was always red

Did client accept it? If it is already finished, I don't see why you shouldn't place it in portfolio... if you are not happy with it, add also the one you like the most.
