I am curious of how many hours does it take for you to design a logo?
I would have to say my answer would be as many hours as it takes. I have designed logos in minutes, and then I have designed logos that took hours, days, and on occasion weeks.![]()
It varies for every logo. Like cclark413 said, there are some logos that will be a snap to create and others that sort of take...forever. And you never quite know which type of logo is going to take how long.![]()

it also depends..on the type of client you are making it for...
maybe a minute, maybe an hour, or maybe it could take a days... depend on your idea... how fast you get the idea, how fast you transform it into design.
I tend to take around 30 minutes for a logo, but then I look over my design and think of new ideas and adjustments. So all in all it take's anywhere from 1-3 days.
It helps when the company provides you with all the information you need, not much researching to worry about. Otherwise, it takes a long time. Well depending on how formal things get.
The design of a logo can be difficult, so many different types and styles of logos and designer can be difficult to know exactly where to start. The design of a logo does not have to be a difficult task and certainly not necessary to take an eternity to complete. This tutorial shows you a process expected to help you create a professional logo for your client in minutes, not hours. This method works for any type of client you have.
As an example I'll use a logo I designed for a brokerage firm called "capital Petra." Petra Capital is an independently owned boutique Australian firm institutional securities brokerage, offering clients specialized services to financial / institutional and mining / industrial. The word "Petra" means "stone" in Greek.
This tutorial only logo design will have little time to complete (about 5 minutes) and require Adobe Illustrator, but it needs a robust method to create the logo designs of the future. Of course, this is not the only way to go about designing a logo, but try to put some structure around the logo design process very creative and sometimes very random. Allows you to begin with.
Planning for your logo design
Check out the competition:
It is always a good idea to first have a look at some of its competitors customers, as it will give an idea of what is currently there and also help his client's position in the market in terms of brand and corporate image. Checking the competition is as simple as searching on Google. Write down all ideas that could help you find the logo design of their client.
Create a color scheme:
Deciding on a color scheme is an important part of any logo design. Color psychology tells us that the company colors can greatly influence how people view the company as a whole. As a designer, to decide on the colors of the company at an early stage can help to better define the direction we are taking on the basic look and feel of the image of the company.
There are some great tools that can help us in the decision to colors of the company, including Adobe Kuler and color lovers. Both online tools let you search through color schemes for inspiration and ideas. Since I was creating a logo for a brokerage firm specializing in mining companies sought the following words: finance, money, business, clean rock,. Here's the color scheme I created for Petra Capital:
Decide on the type of logo:
There are three basic types of logo:
Illustrative Logo: These types of logos usually consist of highly complex drawings with lots of colors. Impacts are quite high, but usually stay away from them because they do not go down very well due to its high level of detail. I would not recommend the use of illustrative logos for corporate clients.
Iconic Logo: I'ma big fan of these types of logos that consist of an icon or symbol, along with the text of the logo. Iconic logos tend to be more simple and abstract, to lower well and are quick and cheap to print due to its low complexity of detail and color.
Logo text: This is a more traditional logo design which is basically only text in the logo design. The sources are usually adjusted to give the logo an original feel. These types of logos lack the element of surprise that the logos are iconic, but may be a good choice for conservative companies, such as law firms and financial companies. They fit well and are ideal for printing.
decided to go with an iconic design logo of the "Capital of Petra" logo just to help it stand out a bit from the crowd.
Make some initial sketches:
Now that we know what is in terms of competition and we also have a color scheme in mind, it's time to start thinking about the symbolism that we would like to incorporate our logo. This is probably the most difficult and timely process of designing the logo. A great way to organize your thoughts and ideas is the development of a rapid morphological matrix as below.
Creating the logo design
We planned the design of our logo, now is the time for the easy part, creating it. Let's open the Adobe Illustrator and start. There are some basic principles of logo design to consider before you start.
Create your logo in Adobe Illustrator as it is the industry standard. Allowing you to create a vector file that can change its size without loss of quality. It will also be able to have their business logo printed on business cards, stationery and other promotional items.
Be sure to create the logo to use "CMYK" color mode.
Use Pantone colors for your logo to ensure color accuracy. To choose a color in Adobe Illustrator Pantone, simply click the small arrow in the upper right corner of the palette. Then select "Pantone Solid Coated" options. Try to match the colors you chose originally with the Pantone library colors.

It's totally depending upon the logo type as well as client requirements. There are three basic types of logos 1)symbolic 2) wordmark 3) combination marks. Wordmark requires the less time as compare to symbolic and combination mark.

logo can be very difficult and long to do, depending on the requirements specified. There are several obstacles that could make it longer, the demand for a specific image that is precisely what we lack, until hard come up with ideas for the logo. But for one reason or another could have a logo that can be done in just a few minutes.
