It is a DTP (Desktop Publishing) software. It is basically Adobe's new version of Pagemaker.
I use InDesign quite frequently and I am in LOVE with it. It does everything I need it to do and more.
Also, it is also one of the top notch market leader for DTP software. Another softare for DTP is QuarkXpress.
To be frankly speaking, if comparison for pricing vs performance, I'll rather go for Indesign. And it does flow smoothly with PS and AI.
I think the flow between Adobe products can't be denied, I'd lean to InDesign for that bases alone, though I have liked my experience with Quark; seemed easier just to mess around with typography.
for me... its like an upgraded illustrator... with 30% photoshop and 40% pagemaker...
ive tried using IN-Design for quite some time.. and its not bad...
Personally I'm a big fan of InDesign for strictly layout. But like you said, Inertia, it's somewhat of a burden trying to play around with type. It's my preferred layout program though, I don't really like Quark.
i`m a fan of indesign, it help a lot to do magazines layouts.
I use Indesign to design book interior, magazine, newspaper, sometime book cover. I think it is more suitable for that projects, in were lot of text setting job.
very similar to AI but more organized
I used Quark for years. I remember when indesign first came out. Quark was a expensive program and Indesign was developed as a more cost effective program as it was more affordable. Now indesign has almost replaced Quark as the program of printers choice.
Both are used for layout of newsletters, brochures, posters, magazines anything you want to have printed as a publication.
Its mainly to make layouts, also nowadays not only for printed design like magazines and business cards, but also able to make layouts for website and also ofcourse a pdf presentation.
