    Is InDesign the Quark Killer

InDesign vs. QuarkXpress...what do you prefer? Major papers and magazines still use QuarkXpress, do you think InDesign will take over the industry soon?

I hate Q with a passion. At school I REFUSED to use it. Unfortunately, the teacher who is an avid Q user for ages...
    a. never had time to learn ID
    b. didn't want to learn ID
    c. was scared to learn ID
    d. was too old fashioned to learn anything new

Pick your own version. I never asked what is/was the real reason. The school upgraded over a year ago to the full Adobe suite. Yet, the teacher was dragging along this stupid, badly designed program.

I don't really care whether a print shop using Q or ID. I always send a PDF file. Case closed.

Quark is like a mother to me... safe, simple and I know she cares... BUT like all daughters do... they find a drop dead gorgeous guy and leave home... Adobe InDesign is my new love... Exciting, new things, a new adventure and o so compatible with MY needs... and he also loves my friends Photoshop, Illustrator and the rest... my mother Quark only excepts my friends if they change into other people first... then she will try and let them inside... but she won't talk with them. My boyfriend does! He excepts them like they originally are and even parties with them! He can even give them a girly makeover!!!

What could a girl wish for better than that?

I used to use Quark, up to version 4. Now I'm using IDCS. Love it. I've used Quark6, doesn't compare. Quark held back for a looooong time with an update to 4, especially when they didn't jump on the OSX wagon for quite some time. I think they lost their customers by doing that. Everytime I've called Quark customer service, it was always a problem, or delay for hours, or just attitude.

    Peace

the only good thing about quark was that easter egg that used to be in it..you know those alien gus that come out and shoot at each other.i think they knew how bad the program was so they added that in to make you feel better.

Gotta say, I love InDesign. I never had too much experience with Quark, but what I did, I didn't like. I started using ID at version 2 and just upgraded to IDCS2 - love it!

InDesign is Adobe's page layout program, though just calling it a "page layout program" seems quite limiting. It has all sorts of capabilities and functionalitythat Quark doesn't.

Ya I got Indesign CS2 when I bought Adobe Creative Suite 2, a month or so ago, but unfortunately I haven't had a chance to use Indesign yet!

The proper term is Desktop Publishing, or DTP software.

Depending on your final goals and on preferences of PrintShop the choose between the two programs is realy easy to made.
Personaly I prefer Quark 5.5 , is easy to use (simple). What good can do a program with a lot of features not needed for a specific task?
I follow with interes the becoming of InDesign; before ID Adobe was offering Ilustrator as Layout tool. How many of you still use Ilustrator for Layout?

I guess that my point is that the ID still has to prove in time his usability.

I love Adobe Indesign - never was a big fan of Quark. Can't you save indesign files with quark extensions though? Then the magazine editors wouldn't even need to know you were using adobe. Just send a quark based file.

    Quark is alright

You know, I started this topic and originally I hated QUARK! But after I got this new job at a catalog company, all they use is QUARK...and its not so bad. It works well for mass pagination and production type work.

Well QuarkXPress is a standard print program that is being used by a lot of pre-press companies. InDesign is a great program too though with a nice intergration of features from illustrator in it. I use both of them a lot and I can't say that either of them are bad.
