Question Flash or Not too Flash

This topic has been risen in a different forum but i thought it owuld be good as a discussion amost designers. I have noticed along with others that there is a number of designers web developer et cetera that done like using or working with flash in the development of their projects. I personally like flash and enjoy using it in both developing and designing along with looking other flash works.

Im just interested in finding out why many designers some in this forum dont like flash, some of the reasons i know will be obvious but im interested in the personal individual reasons aswell...i thought this would be a good topic to discuss.

Hmm personally I don't really like flash, maybe because I don't really enjoy editing all that frames and doing all that scripting :P

As a user I don't really like surfing onto over-fanciful flashy sites as well, but I do enjoy some that's usable and done tastefully. Navigating flash sites can be a pain sometimes, especially when you just want to find out some information fast, and the flash site is making you wait through all that motion, either that or making you click through navigation that you have to think twice as hard about.

As a designer sometimes I think flash is over-rated, because a lot of clients request for flash, simply just because it's "nice". They don't really think about whether adding flash to a site will really make their service/product sell better or not.

Nevertheless, I do think if flash's used in a good way, it can be an amazing technology for presentation.

I'm a print and packaging designer, so I don't really have much need for flash. Maybe the occasional web project. But I see a lot of really cool stuff that makes me jealous I'm not some crazy flash expert.

To Flash or not to Flash

I am a Flash developer (more on the scripting side) and find it very useful. With more and more online user having the capacity to view Flash based website and with bandwidth increasing in hosting plan, most of the down siddes are now eliminated. Although I always make sure that Flash is used for a specific project and does not apply it to all projects. It is great for animation especially with Flash8 with new features like better video integration. there is still plenty of room to discover what Flash can do and more and more less barriers.

    my 2 cents
