    Question PHP Credit Card Charging

    Hi All
I have a client you wishes to have the ability to do credit card charging on his site.
I actually havernt had to deal with this before, usually it has been doen via other parties and i just provide the link and blah blah. Does anyone know how i would go about this???

    Any help would be appreciated.
If you know about credit cards in australia thats even better, im pretty sure that i have to go through a third party thing, but assistance would be good.

    cheers.

    Hi psyris,

Charging credit cards is a really complicated thing - especially since you need to deal with security (SSL certificates) and a really safe program to actual process the transactions.

In order to process credit cards you need a Merchant account from a trusted provider. I am most familiar with a company called Moneris (which is Canadian) but im not sure what you could use in Australia.

Depending on what your client wants to sell, I would strongly recommend looking to a third party service. There are many companies who offer e-commerce solutions that can be used securely on your site. If they don't plan on selling many products, Paypal and 2Checkout will work very nicely. If they want to sell many things, you should check out a site called Shopify.com which offers a really unique and secure shopping cart for cheap.

Hope that helps a bit. I wouldn't recommend getting involved with the transactions unless you know what you're doing, there is too much of a risk involved.

    Hi Neupix

Yeah it looked very complicated. Cool so third party is the way to go, then thats always good. My client wont be selling many things, just a subscription sort of service, so i think Paypal will do the trick. Everyone seems to be using that. Its pretty simple to include into the site isnt it?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Yep, Paypal is really easy to use. In fact, for subscriptions it works very nicely.
Check out http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Script...Pal/index.html for a whole list of third-party PHP scripts that use paypal as their payment gateway. I noticed there were a couple really simple ones in there made specifically for controlling a subscription based area too.
