Pricing for CD cover Design
Hi,
I'm new to the world of Graphic Design, and I need some help with pricing. I was offered a project to work making a CD cover design and a media press kit for a music group, but I have no idea the amount of time this might require. I am not a skilled illustrator or photoshop user, but agreed to do the project as a learning experience.
Does anyone know how much time it might take to do something of this sort? Also how much do graphic designers charge per hour??
Please let me know, I'm supposed to give an answer back this week.
Thanks-ldurban

wow this really depends, on lots of things, since its your first go you wanna charge dirt cheap pretty much just to build your portfolio, id charge maybe 15-20 bux an hour tops. Specially cause youre gunna take a long time to do it. Also if they are a bunch of starving artists they may just want a flat fee, like 100-200 bux, you could charge up to 500 but i think you should work on your pro-bono for portfolioage

While price ranges and estimates and what people in a particular field might charge for a particular job can't legally be discussed in venues like this, I will say that doing pro bono work while you're learning is a good idea. Good luck and have fun with it. Let us know how it turns out.

If you decide not to do pro bono, then insist on a percentage of the money upfront, with the balance due to be paid you BEFORE they receive the final files. Paypal is a great way to handle the money transactions....they can pay with credit cards and the credit card company becomes the person giving the credit, not you.
