Making stuff really help when you do research before you actually make something. Even a short research to see what kind design there already are give allot of inspiration. Sketching is not always needed. If you directly get a idea in your head you can go for it and make it. When your all blank and need idea or you just can't find the extra ump, you do more research and brainstorm and sketching.

The box was idea because I am studying packaging I want to make something with a box and my logo. I rendered a 3d box in 3dmax because most packaging are not flat but 3d. First I placed the logo on left side then saw hey other side looks empty so added the name there instead of under the logo. And moved the box around to get a good angle and it was finished.
Mainly never make 1 design, you can open illustrator make the first design and copy and paste it next to it then look at it for a while and see what can be changed. Often also resize to look at the design very big to very small to see detail you might not like. I got allot of illustrator files with more then 30 different logo of the same idea. And often the last one you made got everything corrected and is the best.
But sometimes you can make them in 1 shot spot on, what you wanted and look good too. It mostly depends and if you are sure about the design and sure how to place it. If your not sure change it till you are satisfied.
