What type of collage is this?

Please excuse the content of this picture. It was the only one I could find that illustrated my point. Is there a program that can make these types of collages? Photoshop or something? Rather than doing it one by one. Does this type of collage has a specific name?

I would like to make one but am unsure how to do so. Any help or advice will be appreciated.

    Thank you

It is not that hard to make actually. Not sure how it is called too. First you need a base then put a grid over the picture. In the grid you put the pictures with the correct colors that fits that part of the grid. Is kind of puzzling but you need allot of picture to do so.

    Wow cool.

Is it possible to take an image and only assign like 3-4 colors to render it? How would I actually setup the image so that I can start filling in the blanks?

You take one picture need too be sized very big. Or scaled very big in photoshop. And use a filter to make the picture looks pixelated. Or resize without smoothing would do that too. Then ad a new layer and make grid lines and just paste the picture over parts. It all depend on the base picture if it got allot of colors or not. But some people make it like making the screen print andy warhol made of marilyn monroe. That way you get different colors instead of searching different picture with the correct colors.
