Question about copyright
Hello,
I have been wanting to do a t-shirt design of a deceased music artist who has been influential to me for some time now ( J.Dilla ).
I am hesitant to do the design because I am not sure about rights ect.
If I wanted to have an image of this person, or the name incorporated in my design, would I have to obtain rights ??
If I am permitted to do so, would I still hold rights to the design, and be able to sell for profit ?
Any advice would be great, thanks in advance.

Famous person are most likely you need to ask permission from family members of them because they are deceased. Also they ask money most for compensation.
Only not really sure though some times they don't mind these things. People still like to get some profit too if some one use them.
If I made replica Elvis action figure I probably need to asked the wife of Elvis Presley for premission and pay a percentage of the profit.
But if you just make 1 single shirt for yourself there is no problem. But if you make allot and sell them to get profit then its a other story.
