I like it quite a bit better. The old logo was so static, the new one has the sense of potential movement. That imbalance attracts the eye more. They stayed pretty true to their old logo compared to alot of redesigns. I think they put just enough "newness" into it![]()
I don't really care for the old A&T logo to begin with, and at first I didn't really like the new one. The mark reminded me a bit of an easter egg in 3D and doesn't seem to fit well with the type to me. But each time I look at it it grows on me.
I like the new one more. Old one is kind of odd. Looks like a shiny globe or a pool ball.
Old one reminds me bit too much of Konica Minolta though.

i like the new one... i think they have made the right move.
actually they just convert it from 2D to 3D and change the logotype into a much modern font.
In my opinion the redesign is a totally crap. It´s much better the old one in usage and has a good institunional look. If the really had the need to redesign the excelent logo they have had for so many years, then why should it end like this one?
I think designers today may only think logos are applied to websites ... and the do not need a black version, greyscale version, monotone version ... I mean how the hell can the new logo be embossed o beveled into metal? For example: The corporate marquee or on telephone pile?
Why is the logotype written in small case now? And with so bad visual appearence?
Another question I always ask myself is: Is there a special need to put the Render effect on every logo? I mean... if it´s necessary or at least really improves the visual aspect, the OK.
Let´s see an positive example of this:
One one hand, Volkswagen (VW) developed a new VERSION for its original logo, a 3D one which can perfectly be used when materialized and applied as symbol on the cars front. But on the other hand they still have their classic logo, which can still be used in black or used for silkscreen purposes on different surfaces, or embroided on an employees T-shirt.
Well that´s mi opinion as designer. Good luck!![]()
Actually the new logo works just fine in black and white. I can't seem to find a version of it on the web, but here is a picture of the logo on my phone.
I think it is very effective at purveying three dimensional space while maintaining its flatness. I think the old logo, while effective, just looks old. With at&t growing like it is, it needed to freshen its identity. I don’t think the transition was confusing either. It’s a simplification and a modernization at the same time. Just because the version you see all the time has render effects on it doesn’t mean there isn’t a solid b&w version that it is based on. Some companies truly have logos that cannot be translated into b&w without completely changing the mark.*cough*wacom*cough*
As far as the lower case type goes, it’s pretty common now for companies to drop the caps. Caps convey a more serious feel, and at&t is trying to come across as a user-friendly company. I stand by liking this redesign.![]()
For example this one here:
It´s a 3D logo, the always use it like this ... some time ago I´ve found out that they had a black and monotone version of it ... but like I said ... its a 3D logo ... forget about the 2D passage!! xD
