    Coding and starting web pages

    Hey all,

Ive recently learned that to get anywere in the design industry Im going to have to do more then just design a sweet logo and have a great layout...I indeed will need to learn to create a web page and keep it up and running so Im wondering if anyone has any advice, tips and references I could learn from to eventually get the basics of where to start and what I really need to know.

    Thanks for your time.

I can't really speak for logo/graphic design so much but with web design the most important now and in the future is web standards. Clean semantic markup and tableless design using xhtml/css to separate the design from the content.

More general get a website/weblog online and write write write everyday. Keep the design clean and don't mess around with it. Use other sites/pages to show/test design ideas and maybe use them in a portfolio but make sure to keep the main site up and running and alive (with new content).

Thanks for your comments, I will follow your advice. But the thing I am really trying to figure out is how I go about starting a website of my own...I have no training in html or css so thats why Ive asked for everyones input.

Im looking to learn a little html or css and\or figure out how I can create even the most basic of web pages. I need to know pretty much everything from how to actually get a domain to figureing out how to put stuff on it.

    Thanks again

First we have The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) beginner css tutorial:
    http://www.w3.org/Style/Examples/011/firstcss

    or perhaps on of these:
    http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp
    http://www.csstutorial.net/
    http://www.tizag.com/cssT/
    http://www.html.net/tutorials/css/

Then I would suggest that you might start a free blog, maybe:
    http://www.blogger.com or
    http://www.wordpress.com

and just play around with it... look at the html and css and try to see what it does... change a color or something here and there and see whats happens...

Take hosting with 1 click installation of popular cms's, i know heartinternet can give you this, but it's nothing better like creatung your own website from scratches, and later it's much easier to add stuff to it.

Specify what kind of website you looking for (blog, forum etc.) there is a lot of free software for everything in the net.
