    Dermot Kavanagh Orthodontics - $250 - April 7th

    Contest_Holder: dkortho

Company_Details: Orthodontic practice with patients ranging from school children to adults.

    Type_of_Contest: Logo Design

    Title: Orthodontic Practice

    Deadline: 7th April 2009

    Prize: $250

    Colors: Open to any suggestions

Designer_Brief: Dermot Kavanagh Orthodontics is a friendly, young and developing practice. We aim to provide quality orthodontic care in a comforting manner for our patients, at competitve rates. Patients range from school children to adults. We are looking for a logo which will be suitable for use on a website, letter headings, business cards, and a plaque outside the surgery. We are open to suggestions for the logo design, but would be looking for something that is simple but effective, with a professional look, as opposed to a more playful look. The title 'Dermot Kavanagh Orthodontics' should be present.

That's really good, thank you Nancy. The colour is appropriate. I like the text, and the logo above is very clever.
We were wondering what something similar might look like without the tooth, or even without the smiley face on the tooth?
Could we see maybe a slightly less "bubbly" font on the DK? Just interested to see what variations of that idea you could show us.

    Thanks again!

Many thanks for your entry Vlad. Great to have another perspective. I'm not sure the light bulb idea will work in this case. Have you any other ideas?

Thanks for the responses so far! Could I steer you in the direction of a smile motif instead of a tooth motif for the logo?

We like the colours in your design. Although, the picture in the logo reminds us of a dating agency! As mentioned above, we would be interested in seeing what could be done using a smile motif rather than a tooth motif.

    Many thanks!

Thanks Jojo. That's a clever idea. That's just the experience we want our patients to have. The 3 smiles you have there though, I think are a little vague. Have you any other ideas, sticking with the smile idea? We would like to avoid logos that might look a little too childish or playful, although, I think you have done a good job at trying to avoid that.

Thanks for your entry, please keep them coming!

Thank you for the alternative colour scheme. Having looked at that and all the other designs on here, we have decided the blueish look is what we would like to go for. Could you show us anything with this colour?

    Thank you!

    Hi everybody,

Thanks again for all the entries.

We have been discussing them here and have come up with the following points:

    1. We like the font of "Dermot Kavanagh Orthodontics" in Nancy's (post #13) the best.

    2. We might want to steer away from the smiley tooth. Nancy, well done on the research surrounding the brackets and trying to incorporate them into the design. Although, we do worry that it may not be something we want in the logo - it may not be a pleasant image for some people!

    3. Vlad, we previously responded to you that the light bulb idea mightn't work in this case. Now, however, it would be greatly appreciated if we could maybe see what else you can do with that idea! Is there any way a smile might look good in the lightbulb?

    4. Everybody is doing a great job on the "Dermot Kavanagh Orthodontics" bit. However, no-one has yet entered an image that we can picture as being on all of our documents - appointment cards, business cards, plaque, letter heading etc. etc. We are not sure ourselves what this should be, so we really do greatly appreciate the brainstorming we're getting from all of you.
For the moment, we want to experiment with the "smile" motif, perhaps something like in jojomarie's logos. The initials "DK" are not neccessary, so any ideas without this are also very welcome.

Thanks again folks. Really looking forward to seeing what you can show us!

    Thanks again Vlad.
Continue working towards the "smile" idea. I'm not mad about the "DK" font here. The design you have for the smile kind of makes me think of an airline logo Can you alter this design? Also, please refer to my post above. Thank you!
