    Momentum - $275 - April 15th

    Contest_Holder: pmv-consulting

Company_Details: Momentum Consulting is a professional IT services firm that also sells software, aptly named Momentum. More company information can be found on our current website - Company

    Type_of_Contest: Logo Design

    Title: Momentum Logo Design

    Deadline: April 15, 2009

    Prize: $275

Designer_Brief: Our firm has a temporary logo and web presence that we would like to revamp. We would like a clean, memorable logo with a color palette that can be built upon for use on updating our website, business cards, office window signs and marketing material.

The logo does not need to include 'Consulting' as we hope to have the logo represent our company's offerings in both consulting services and software. The logo should incorporate the use of 'pmv' or 'p=mv', the physics formula for momentum, as it also stands for Performance, Methodology, and Value which are features our software delivers. However, we would like the incorporation of PMV to be optionally removed, when necessary, leaving a logo that is still simple and straightforward. We do not have any color preferences at this time, but may be able to provide more guidance in our feedback.

    Maxson,

Great job with the logo! Here's some feedback:

-The colors are easy and pleasing to the eye, and are very close to the colors of the existing logo. At this time, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. While it means an easier time of swapping out logos, we are interested in seeing something different for comparison sake.

-The Momentum font is very appropriate for a technology company. Simple lines. Nice.

-The circular logo is appealing, and does a good job incorporating the PMV aspect. However, the use of the arrow and PMV is not integrated enough to make it instantly recognizable as a formula or how it should tie in with "Momentum". Also, it's hard to remove and have the rest of the logo stand alone.

Hope this feedback helps. I do enjoy this logo as a first cut and look forward to its revision. Thanks!

    Maxson,

I liked how you changed up the colors. These colors are also pleasing and a little different from what we previously had.

The redesigned arrow is also an improvement. It gives a molecular look to the logo which lends itself to being more scientific, hence more formulaic. But those are many leaps to make.

After some thought, I think I would like to see the graphic portion of the logo focused mainly on "Momentum" and not "p=mv". I would still like "p=mv" as a removable component of the logo/symbol or as part of the text (like how OneSummer/Paul did). But I primarily would like to focus on the company name Momentum.

Hope this helps and thanks for providing designs to assist us in better grasping what we're looking for.

I understand the desire to keep the logo circular because it's what you tend to think of when you're conjuring momentum. I am ok with that but would like to see if you can capture the concept of momentum in the logo in any form, circular, a trajectory - arc or line. Also, I like the font's simplicity, but it's too casual. Lastly, I haven't landed on a color palette yet, but would like to stay away from deep oranges, reds, and purple.

Thanks for submitting your first design. We're looking forward to seeing revisions!

Sorry if my explanation was unclear. Earlier, I was trying to envision what the circular graphic would look like if the word Momentum was taken away. Standing alone, it is just a circle with an arrow inside it and it was hard to figure out that Pmv was the formula for momentum. So, I had wanted to see the graphic represent the idea of momentum better and to have P=MV off to the side.

However, in this last submission, the top entry with the p=mv inside the circle ended up being the one we liked the best. It does the job of integrating a logo with the formula and with the company name Momentum. Although the formula is not really removable from the graphic, we like that the logo is meaningful enough to represent momentum without the Momentum text.

At this point, we have taken this concept as far as we would like it to go. We are looking to compare it to other different designs and would welcome another submission if you have additional ideas.

    Thanks Maxson!

    illumina,

Thanks for your entry! While I do appreciate how different your design is from the others, here are a few aspects of the logo that don't work with what we had envisioned:

    - the monochromatic gray tones are a bit drab. we would like to see color.
    - the font should be thinner and more fluid/elegant
    - the line through Momentum looks too much like a strikethrough

Hope the feedback is constructive and helpful. We look forward to seeing another entry from you!

I like the colors and strong clean lines. The placement of the bars for the E, however, divides Momentum too much. So, it ends up appearing as MOM and NTUM. I think it was a cool idea to try and embed the graphic into the text, but a better division of the text would be MO-MENTUM. And unless it's very clever, I'm more inclined to keep the Momentum name intact.

Thanks for your entry! We're looking forward to your additional ideas.

    Maxson,

Love this entry as well! Do you think there's anyway to embed an M in the middle of the circles without making it look too busy? Or find a way to give the circular logo a little more interest by adding more colors to the lines, similar to how you did the Dockwell logo, but keep the colors to 4 by pairing 2 colors on one semicircle (alternating lines) and 2 on the other.

We really do like this submission as well. Nice work!

I like how the overall effect is presented! The Momentum and P=mv is strongly depicted. However, the arc and arrows give too much of a flattened impression. Maybe moving the design below the Momentum text would have the arrows oriented so they're pointing at Momentum. Or if you could find a way to work the arc and arrows idea so it's less 2-dimensional, that would be appealing as well.

Thanks for your entry! Looking forward to revisions.
