    Swiss Association - $300 - Oct. 2

    Forum Username: svme

Company Details: The Swiss Association of Purchasing and Supply Management SVME/ASAA is a very largely respected and renowned organizer of meetings, events and professional trainings in the field of procurement and supply management in Switzerland. More than 1'000 corporate members profit from professional information, public relation campaigns, standardization and a variety of training opportunities. The association is operating in each part of Switzerland, meaning that all communication must be adapted to three languages: German, French and Italien. In addition we have strong ties to international partners as the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM). Further informations (German and French) on our website SVME Schweizerischer Verband für Materialwirtschaft und Einkauf

    Type Of Contest: Logo Design

Contest Title: New Logo for a Swiss association

    Contest Deadline: Oct. 2, 2009

    Prize Amount: $300

NEW NAME - NEW LOGO! TODAY'S SITUATION: The current appearance of the association is quite heterogeneous. It consists of:
    a) 2 abbreviations ("SVME" and "ASAA")
    b) the current name in 3 languages
    c) a logo in English ("Swiss Procurement Forum" - see website SVME Schweizerischer Verband für Materialwirtschaft und Einkauf)

INTENDED APPEARANCE: The association intends to pursue a one-brand policy, which means that we are willing to change the association's commercial firm name and try to establish this single name (and accordingly one single logo) in the market regardless of the language area. We have compiled a short list of possible new names: - Swiss Procurement - Swiss Supply Management - Swiss Purchasing - Achat Suisse Obviously the selection of our future name depends on the artwork as well...

THE CHALLENGING TASK FOR YOU AS A DESIGNER: select one or more of the short list's names and design a logo proposal!! Now - there are some more requirements to consider:

LOGO COMPOSITION: Combination of name (text) and visual element - where as the visual element should also work out independently.

THE TEXTUAL ELEMENT: Consists of the name (see above). Please use a modern, simple, clean font. The same font family should be usable as company font.

THE VISUAL ELEMENT: Should be modern, simple, clean, stylized. As the association's field of activity is already described within the name, it might be a good idea, to show a connection to the association's territory: try for example to integrate the Swiss Cross - but again: do it in a cool way!

UMBRELLA BRAND POLICY: The logo should be "open" to follow an umbrella brand policy - meaning to be able to label different services as subbrands.

CLAIM / TAGLINE: As for the moment being there is no tagline. Albeit - you never know...

THE COLORING: Colors are not defined. But the applied colors set the path to a future color scheme. Please bear in mind that - as a part of the umbrella brand strategy - the different subbrands should (probably) be distinguished by color as well. Mandatorily required: - possibility to display in black and white - possibility to display in levels of grey - possibility to display in CMYK and RBG

USE OF LOGO: - all types of printed communication - all types of electronic media - applicable on different types of promotional items T

RANSITIONAL PHASE: Please also consider logo versions including the two old abbreviations SVME and/or ASAA. All the rest is open to your creative urges I would appreciate very much to see your proposal, to have feedback on the briefing and to respond to questions. If anybody has a sudden inspiration concerning a better name... Please let me know!
You MUST be an Elite Designer to enter the contests. Please go to www.designcontest.com and follow the link that says "Love to Design" to get more information and the requirements for joining. There are NO EXCEPTIONS.

    first concept

    Hi svme

For my initial concept I explored a clean and modern rectilinear composition. The four squares while forming the swiss cross are also meant to suggest stability and structure. I used a contemporary swiss font (Helvetica Neue LT Std 45 Light) to help capture the essence of the organization.

    Thanks

    Dear Smack

Thanks for your first concept - it looks very good to me!
Even so I have some suggestions you could elaborate:
    1. Please show me a version with text in lower case characters only
    2. Please show how the logo would work in greyscale
    3. Try to integrate the two old abbreviations SVME and/or ASAA
    4. Any idea how a subbrand would be labeled? Try to show an example with the subbrand "Academy" ("achat suisse academy")
    5. Any special reason why you have chosen this name? Could you try it with another name out of the shorlist - or try it with one of this: "Swiss Supply" or "Procure Suisse"

    Once again: appreciate your work!

    Hi onesummer

    Thanks for your first idea.
The "Swissness" is expressed clearly - but honestly to me it boost the cliché of Swiss People waving flags and yodeling all the day... It's a little bit too folkloristic.
Try to put more abstractness into it - more coolness.
The hints addressed to Smack may also inspire you. Stay on board - I'm looking forward to see more of your work.

    Best regards from Switzerland,
    svme (Beat)

    @Daphne

    Hi Daphne

Good throw! I like the motion in the logo! I don't like very much the font you propose though. The capitalization does not please me very much. Could you try to use a less "grim" font family - probably the same as in Smack's first concept?
The visual element is okay - just elaborate the font / the text element for the moment. The hints addressed to Smack may also inspire you. I'm looking forward to see more of your work.

    Best regards from sunny Switzerland,

Any idea of a subbrand policy using different colors?

    Thanks for your work!

    Hi svme

thanks for the feedback. Being anglocentric, I chose the name "achat suisse" because I find that it sounds classier than swiss purchasing.
I have explored the suggestions you requested. Please let me know what you think.

This is my first entry. I choose the name "achat suisse" because it is quite more remarkable than most of the other options, which are in english and sound very generic.

The font is from the same typographic family smack used, but this one is bolder, so it get a better readability in smaller sizes.

As you can see, I used the Swiss Cross as an organizing element on the logo, organization by which the swisses are famous. Standing alone, however, it is a very eclectic icon, which can be interpreted as an arrow going forwards, or simply as an agile cross rushing forwards.

As below, a new subbrand name could simply take the place of the SVME and ASAA abbreviations as the tagline.
