    Interiors Photographer - $225 - Oct. 8th

    Forum Username: thelightworker

Company Details: I am a seasoned pro photographer in the interiors/architectural market. I recently updated my website to a cleaner design, but need a Logo that reflects a hipper, younger message to the 20 and 30 year old buyer's sensibilities. Beautiful day-lit interiors with attention to detail is my trademark.

    Type Of Contest: Logo Design

Contest Title: Fresh Face for an Interiors Photographer

    Contest Deadline: October 8, 2009

    Prize Amount: $225

Colors To Be Used: In the Cornflower Blue family AND Mustard Yellow, but I am open to anything that work with my current website

    Example URLs: karenmelvin.com

I want a Logo design that reflects a hipper, younger message to my buyers of interior/architectural photography. I recently updated my website (karenmelvin.com) and I like the clean look of it, but it needs an identity message in the Logo. My strength is my ability to light any interior and make it feel like a day-lit space, but I'm not sure if this can be represented in a Logo. I am a fist time author with a new coffee table book launching mid-October and would like to get my image fluffed and buffed before the media attention begins.

I would like to use my initials (KM) as a major part of the design.
You MUST be an Elite Designer to enter the contests. Please go to www.designcontest.com and follow the link that says "Love to Design" to get more information and the requirements for joining. There are NO EXCEPTIONS.

I would like to use my initials KM as part of the design, but it's not mandatory.

Hi Geek, thanks for your efforts on the design, While I like the more modern sans serif look of the type, and it seems you took your color cues from the website type, I am not necessarily having to stay with the grey. I thought a more interesting color to contrast with the yellow ( in the mustard yellow family) is a blue somewhere in the family of Pantone 271 C. I may change the grey out on my website design after the contest process.
I'm not quite getting the bird motif- what was your inspiration for that? And the initial read on the left side seems a little hard lined, I guess I like to think of my work as more emotional and soft, whereas your design has a more hard lined techno feel. While I understand you are trying to get the M into the logo, I would rather see it integrate left to right, than turn it on it's side.

Thanks for your submission and I look forward to the process!

    Hi Karen,

    Here's my 1st idea.
Edit: Know that the colors aren't the suggested but those changes are at a distance of a click.

thanks for your submissions. I like your use of grahics and type, but I am feeling like the use of shutters and other popular photographic icons are way too literal for my market. Art buyers for ad agencies look at thousands of photogrAphers monthly, so this is a Fairly sophisticTed buyer, I am a specialist amongst the entire field of photograpers.
I would like to stay away from the cliche' of photograpic symbols. I would like to present my image/brand through an interpretation of type associTed with my name and initials. I see the design working in to my present Website design which is clean, against a white background. I like sans serif type, modern style in feeling. Maybe my branding cue is along side the type of my name, or just above and to the left of my name, maybe it is THE key to remembering my name. I appreciate your trying to solve my problem! Karen

    Hi Karen,
I went with more of a contemporary abstract yet literal representation of light coming through the window. At the same time creating a sumbliminal M with the shape. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Karen,
I do not want to assume anything so I am just wondering if the comments above include my design (Post #9). It does blend your initials prominently into the symbol with the photographic element, which makes a nice watermark. It does work nicely on a white background nd would fit well on your web site. Thanks for anythin you can add on my post.

    Hi Dongerz,

You so get me! This is a pleasant and unexpected surprise. I like the type style you chose and the concept of light coming through the window tied into the name so seamlessly. I would be interested to get your recommendations on the colors if you think there is a better combination. Wow, Nice Work! I'm over the moon.

Hi CincyTodd, I have been on the road for the past few days and my comments coming through my iphone have been spotty at best. I like your choice of the type style and placement of my name. The symbol feels a little too sharp/jaggedy and jarring for my personality. People always call me the calm in the storm - i.e how do you stay so calm and centered? I do like how you brought out the initials in the circle. Maybe there's a way to say it with a more zen-like graphic and drop the idea of a photographic shutter symbol. I think my level of buyers are over the photo symbols - they look at 1000's of shooters every month, and I would like my logo to remind them of my name OR the specialty of photography that I shoot.
I love the clean simple look of the type and I appreciate your expressive treatment of my problem.

I Robyn, Thanks for your submissions, and I see from your second go that you are approaching it from an Asian aesthetic - which is something I did not consider initially. I like the subtlety of the first one better than the second, but had some questions about the ( leaf?) symbol coming off the square in the center. What does that refer to? I'm not too crazy about the color choice as I don't see it working with my current website. The second design ( logo part) seems a little too ornate for my tastes, although I like the type choice in my name. Simple, calm, centered, laid back , expressive with my lighting techniques, and a love of the technical side of shooting interiors- that's me.
    Thanks!
    Karen

I did have in my minds eye something very similar to this where the initials are working to establish some identity and remembrance with my name. And then the name written out is the punctuation at the end. I like it very much!

    Hi Paulo,

I see this is your first submission, which you would like a comment.... I think that the type is nice but feels a little too squared off for me. The placement of the watermark seems a bit too static over the type. Your concept doesn't give me a instant read on what kind of photography I do, or some element of the style I promote. I know the colors are changable, but I like your second design better.
    Thanks,
    Karen
