    Everything for Marketing - $275 - Dec. 27th

    Forum Username: marks

Company Details: A group of advertising, graphic design, web design and marketing professionals who sometimes work together as a team. (None of us do logo design--that's why we need you!)

    Type Of Contest: Logo Design

    Contest Title: Everything for Marketing

    Contest Deadline: December 27

    Prize Amount: $275.00

Colors To Be Used: Designer's choice

We need a logo that will work for print and on the web. We prefer bold, clean, simple designs; nothing that's too complicated. It can be just an interesting type treatment or it can have a symbol--whatever you feel works. No grunge or punk, but just about anything else is a possibility. The logo should say: Everything for Marketing. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like.

    Hi NHR,

Thank you for entering my contest. I like how you've turned the word "for" on its side, but I wish the rest of the type was more interesting. Perhaps mixing font weights or using more than one font might help.

    TheNutz,

Thank you for entering the contest, too. Again, I think the type treatment could be more interesting. I realize you've tried to do that by setting "THING" in a different color, but the shape of the letters is still pretty basic.

Please let me know if I can provide any additional information.

    Hi NHR,

I think I may have sent you in the wrong direction. I greatly prefer your original type treatment to your most recent revision. With the black surrounding "everything", the logo takes on a very dreary look. It doesn't look friendly at all. The symbol coming into the black from the sides almost looks like blades from a knife.

I don't know if this will help you, but I visited your website and I really like the light, bright, friendly look of many of your designs. My favorite is Basketball and Beyond. Even without the basketball player, which I think is very creative, the type treatment in Basketball and Beyond has a nice, interesting look to it. I think your 2 Moms Talk.com logo is also very creative and fun.

Other designs of yours that I like are brk studio, backpackets, budget pronto, Colombo Media Group, and Spot Free PC. I think the abstract symbol and type treatment for AgPerspective Commodities are also very nice.

What impresses me about many of your designs is that they are bright and colorful, yet still retain a certain amount of sophistication. I get the feeling that these companies are fun people to do business with, yet they are still very professional. That is the image I would like for Everything for Marketing.

I hope this helps, and thank you again for your efforts on this logo.

    Hi Baiskee,

Thank you for entering my contest. I like the idea of making a design out of the letters EFM or E4M. Unfortunately, I had to look at the current design for a long time until I finally saw what was going on. Maybe other people will "get it" faster, but this has me concerned. Nevertheless, I think the idea of making a symbol out of EFM or E4M is very good. Perhaps there is a way to make a design that is a bit more readable. I also like the colors you chose and the font for the words Everything for Marketing.

    Hi Vicki,

Thank you for your entry. I see you live in LA. I'm just down the freeway in O.C.

I admire how you made the triangles work with all three letters, but I'm afraid it's not us. The E, F and M are too abstract. We would prefer something a bit more readable. I also feel there's a more interesting solution for the type.

Please let me know if I can provide more information.

my first. the symbol was designed with specific meaning and branding opportunities, however, I'd prefer you to have your first impressions without being biased by my explanation. So after you take a look, let me know if you'd like to hear my approach to this design. thanks.

    Thumbs up

    Hi Paul,

I like your idea very much. I think it has strong possibilities and could definitely work for us! I'd also enjoy hearing about your approach to this design.

If possible, I'd like you to try a couple of alternative fonts. I also wonder what the design might look like if there were fewer curved lines in the circle, and each of the lines was wider at the thick end. Perhaps try 8 or 9 curved lines instead of 12.

Having said that, please hang on to your original. It's very nice the way it is and my suggestions might--or might not--improve it.

    Thank you for your entry.

glad you like it. (looks as good on black too). below you will find the original I submitted (top), an alternate version with 9 curves (middle) and an alternate font (one of my favorites), and a version with only 6 curves (bottom) with a 3rd type option.

my personal favorite choice is the middle one (both font and # of curves), as the symbol is simplier, but still very intriguing, and the type most complements the symbol with its look of motion and flow.

as far as my approach goes, I wanted to design a symbol that abstractly shows teamwork, specifically many people/thoughts/ideas, flowing together harmoniously as one, towards a single goal (that being meeting your client's needs). Hence the multiple curves flowing towards the center, in a circular shape. going with the spectrum of colors just further emphasizes the concept of having multiple, creative ideas/people on the team.

for further branding, I was envisioning you could take the primary colors of the spectrum and used each for each service you provide to customers (i.e. graphic design = blue, advertising = red, web design = orange, etc.). In addition, each service page/section of your website would be decked out in its specific color. Also, the 360 degree curves are in 3 layers, with varying opacity -- i'm sure a decent animator could animate the symbol in a cool way, pretty easily.

    thanks.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for the feedback on my first concept--I get what you mean about the abstractness. Here's another concept I have that is much less abstract but still has great iconographic/branding qualities for your company name. I'd like to know what you think so I can develop it further:

    And my second entry.

When I thought about the word everything I thought of the phrase "Everything but the kitchen sink" but in this case it could refer to you guys offering everything "Including" the kitchen sink when it comes to marketing. A memorable icon that people will remember. Thoughts?

    Vicki,

Thank you for your second entry. I like how you've linked the E and the 4, but I wish the letters weren't so long and slender. I realize for the E you've picked up the shape of the M, but unfortunately, it looks a lot like the Greek letter Sigma. I like the type treatment for "Everything for Marketing" a lot.
