Black Diamond Games Logo - $200

    Contest Holder userID: BlackDiamond
    Type Of Contest: Logo Design
Title: Black Diamond Games Logo Design
    Deadline: 9/15/2004
    Prize: $200

Company Details: Black Diamond Games Black Diamond Games is a small, California-based retail game brick and mortar store. Black Diamond Games will become the local game store of choice for eastern Contra Costa County (in the San Francisco Bay Area), attracting children and young adults with an excellent selection of games, superior customer service and in-store games and tournaments.
Examples: The logo should be fun and flashy. Game store logos I like: http://battysbest.com/images/BB.gif http://www.mycomicshop.com/images/mcslogo.gif
    http://www.thethirdplanet.com/grfx/tplogo.jpeg
    http://www.morethangames.com/layout/...mages/logo.gif
    http://titangames.com/images/adjusted_logo.gif

    http://www.alien-menace.com/images/ATF_Web.jpg
    http://www.plycon.com/pklogo.gif

Colors: No preferred colors, but the logo will need to be used in many different mediums, from web sites, to business cards, to t-shirts.

Style: The design should be fun and exciting. It could have an element of fantasy to it, or it could be a classy geometric design.

Comments: It can't be scary or frightening. I somehow envision a wizard or knight holding up a black diamond, but that might be too busy.

Other Details: We're planning to have a full suit of plate mail, armor holding a sword, "standing guard" in the middle of the store.

    Thanks folks!

Here's my first entry. I tried different versions, with
the sword completely inside the shape and the "hand" on
the lower part of the sword. Also with the letters B and D
inside the diamond (on both sides of the sword), but
it looked a little too cluttered (if that's the word). And
also with the letters B and D on both sides of the sword
(outside the diamond shape - which looked good and
could be used for some purposes of the logo).

Of those versions, this one was the one I found best:

I might make another version, with a crest, later.

...oh, I forgot the word "Games", but I'll update this
entry at the same time when I make the crest-version.

Here is my entry (see attached image)

As always - its simple & elegant yet effective. I also showed how it would work on a business card, and how the simple card idea would look well on the back of a business card.

Because only 3 colours are used and because they are grayscale, printing costs for this logo would be cheap.

It has also been created in Flash MX, which means its a scalable vector ready to be printed at any resolution.

I really like where this is going. I like the idea that the logo incorporates a diamond, while remaining true to a game motif. Imaze is onto something with his sword in a diamond thing....

Fantasy imagery is usually ok if it's familiar -- gandalf type wizards and knights are good, for example. I really like Render's wand logo, for example, but it won't fly with the mainstream. I also like Blazen's knight, but wish there was a diamond motif more predominant in the graphic.

I would like to see more of your wizard ideas. The wizard has a cute factor (a good thing).

I've posted the link to this contest to a discussion board of game store owners and they like the wizards, as well as rEnders wand logo. Those are my top picks too, although I'm still hoping to see something that really grabs me.

I also like Blazen's first mounted horse logo, but I would love to see some sort of diamond motif in it.

Hello all. This is my very first post as a DC design team member. Glad to be here contributing . Going with the obvious for now...a simple little 3D diamond action.

A friend had a couple of concepts that I liked:

    * dragon with a jeweler's eyepiece inspecting a diamond
    * A knight with a diamond coat-of-arms design in his shield

I like that it's compact and includes a diamond and some fantasy in the logo. My concern is that it's somewhat complex. But I like it!

I like the one without swords, but the wizard is too scary.

Here is my second entry - it almost came out too
scary but I think I managed to get it cute enough
    with the eyes.

    http://www.nic.fi/~sikkek/BlackDiamond_logo05.jpg

This could also be made to look more like a crest - which
I originally thought I'd do next (with only a helmet on top,
a shield and banners) - with banners starting from the
top of the knights head and twirling all the way down to
behind the text - I'll do that only if you like this and request it.

Another idea was to put the character on the left
or right hand side, and have a cape starting from
the neck and flowing almost horizontally to the other side.
This revision also done only if requested.

With a little bit of simplistic creativity, the character
shape can be used in many different ways:

Here is mine. more detail can go into the bottom of the knight and the letters. I'm just running out of time and want to post something to see if you like the direction.
