    R.A.G.E. Media - The Human Revolution-$170-May7th

    Contest_Holder: ragemedia

Company_Details: R.A.G.E. Media is a publishing and media company whose products include books and merchandise based on an idea of a 'Human Revolution.' R.A.G.E. stands for 'Rebellious Affirmation of Greater Existence' and has a spiritual and secular meaning. In brief, that doing what is right in todays world requires the attitude of a revolutionary in a struggle with the dying of the light of human reason. (Dylan Thomas' 'Do Not Go Gently' is a recurring theme.)

    Type_Of_Contest: Logo Design

Title: Logo design for R.A.G.E. Media - The Human Revolution

    Deadline: May 7th

    Prize: $170.00

    Colors: Black, Red, White

    Examples:
    http://www.istockphoto.com/file_clos...php?id=4148428

    http://dyinglight.com/store/includes...mages/logo.gif

Comments: I am looking to update our logo, which will be used for branding on our books, websites, and merchandise and shirts. As it will be trademarked, we will need exclusive use of the design. The company name is R.A.G.E. Media, and the slogan is 'The Human Revolution'

Technically speaking, it needs to be simple enough to look good in one-color applications, especially black and white (or white on black), although more colors can be used on the design in general. After black and white, red is probably the next color to see frequent use.

Conceptually, I would like to incorporate the silhouette or line art rendering of a person raising their fist in defiance (See first sample url). Imagine someone giving a passionate revolutionary or defiant speech. However, I want to avoid focus on the fist as it's been used so much already and with the name appears too violent - so bust or full-length figure is preferred. Someone suggested that maybe the image could be incorporated into the company name, such as the 'A' being formed by their legs - not sure if that would work, but it was an idea. The font can be stencil based or brush strokes, or pitch something new. In the past we used a font that appeared hastily/passionately brushed.

I'm still unsure if I want the slogan incorporated in the logo or not. I don't want to make it a requirement but if you are able to include both variants it would help us down the road.

Hi all! I'm excited to finally submit my contest. I've followed quite a few contests here.

I forgot to mention that another angle I'm willing to explore is a gritty "underground resistance" feel.

Mostly for the font, consider these:

Here's another silhouette image... although it's a character and not the outline of a person - and I don't like the megaphone.

    Hope that helps!

    Dragonfly,

    Congrats on being first!

Could we / should we have the figure raising his right arm instead of left?
Perhaps without the coat-tail the figure would be more universal.

I like the slogan font, but I'm thinking the first letters should be capitalized.

I like the effect you did on the name, but not particularly fond of the font. Perhaps something thicker, more stencilish? I know at times I'll want to "stack" the name, like our current logo:

    R.A.G.E.
    Media

... and maybe with a wider font we could do that with the new logo. Not sure yet if the logo will be used more wide and short or or more "square" like the current one, but I'm used to using the more square-shaped logo. It'd probably look better on a t-shirt more square.

Thanks for the submission - its a solid start.

    Thanks for your feedback.
No problem in changing the hand and removing the coat tail.
Regarding the font, I looked for one that would match the legs width but I can try something else.
    I'll work on the changes.

    Dragonfly,

    That looks great.

Would you mind including version without the distortion, since there is no "flat color/full color" version of this design?

I have no further comments on your design - it looks good, and I like it the way it is. Feel free to submit another concept or two!

    Hi ragemedia,

Here is the revision with a version without the distortions.

In the original version I chose fonts that have the distortion themselves, that's why for this version I looked for the most similar fonts without the distortion.

    Thanks Chris.

    The fonts look great!

It's important that R.A.G.E. is an acronym and recognized as such - so we need the periods after each letter in "RAGE"

Also, the figure kind of looks like he's hanging his head, and his hand seems disconnected from his arm/body due to the effect. Can you adjust the figure a bit?

FYI I've requested an extension from the admins since there are only 2 designs and the contest ends tomorrow.

It'd be nice to see some designs with more 'passionate' fonts, such as brush strokes like our current logo (See first post).

    Chris,

Wow! Thanks for the revised figure.

You forgot the period after "E" - but other than that I don't have any more comments.
