dafont.com has free fonts...although, I don't know what the usages are.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend buying some packages form foundries like P22, House Industries or check Veer. That was you'll have the rights and you'll know that you have all the necessary components (screen and post script/printer fonts)

First of all free fonts are not all free fonts. You have to look at if they have a licence text some does and these are mostly fonts you do have to pay a certain small some of money so you can use it for commercial use without getting sued.

However I would advice to buy fonts for some occasions , cause mostly they are clean and better designed. Plus it is safe not to get sued cause using the logo's for commercial use. You can buy cd's with few 1000 fonts for a fair price with the whole font families plus they are bought fonts which normally cost about 15 euro or more per font, but these cd just cost 30 so you pay less then you have too then buying them loose.

Also sometime its even better to design a own font instead which fits logo's best.

^^yep. I guess that's what I was trying to say.

Also - many free fonts aren't properly weighted, most of the time they're made by amateur font designers, so they're either rip-offs or just plain "not good." (I think, anyway)

some of them you can use for commercial work, you just need to check the licensing. There aren't too many legitimate foundries that give away complete sets of fonts with open licenses.
