    Lightbulb what is web 2.0?

    - One: Hi, how are you?

    - Two: great how are you?

    - One: did you hear about the new web software?

    - Two: which one?

    - One: it's called web 2.0 …

    - Two: J of course I heard about it

    - One: where do you get it from? How do you download it?

    - Two: (laughing) well actually it's not a computer software, it a - social software.

    - One: what do you mean by social software?

    - Two: it means that it depends on you to learn, it's not about - installing some code on your machine.

    - One: I'm confused!

    - Two: Web 2.0 is a set of social, economic, and technology trends, and it's about the new ways we are using the Internet.

    - One: ok

    - Two: as users, it's almost the same for us; we read, write, and upload and download files on the Internet.

    - One: so what is really new?

    - Two: The new social and commercial tools available for us; blogs, comments, photo sharing, video sharing, recommendations, social networking etc.

    - One: oh, ok. I heard about these and I actually participate in some of them.

    - Two: Web 2.0 is about user participation, openness, and network effects.

    - One: can you please explain more?

    - Two: in web 1.0 we used to read and write emails and passively read the news or browse for whatever information we wanted. Now…. We write blogs, people read them for information. We are publishers and journalists. Regular people can do advertising and public relations through their blogs and impact and the public opinion regarding any topic. Companies can no longer rely on the mainstream media for all their communications. You and I shape the perception about these companies.

Web2.0 Design got totally nothing to do with what it is said above. It is about using fade in or gradients colors in the design making effect of shines and reflections and many more.

Web1.0 were flat simple designs without having a 3d effect.

It's a pun that seems to turn into an infomercial for Web 2.0 about half way down. That's where I get confused

personally I think web 2.0 is just something clients throw around to frustrate designers. It's basically just whatever's "in style" at the time which makes it really hard to define. now for a real puzzler... what will web 3.0 look like?

    web 2.0 logos

From my experience. Web 2.0 logos for example, contain gradients, shadows, reflections, are usually bold in someway, they tend to use sans serif fonts, and are not always limited to 1-4 colors. Web 2.0 logos typically don't get printed too often and when printed they may use some gang run methods involving cmyk as opposed to pms colors. Since i use illustrator mostly for logos i would say that web 2.0 logos allow me to use those effects and filters in the menu I previously didn't. Web 2.0 logos are typically seen by people that are computer savvy, have relatively new machines, and monitors and spend a notable amount of time on the internet probably between the ages of 5-35.

There has been a lot of chatter lately about Web 2.0, as if the Internet is a versioned software application.

So what is Web 2.0? Simply put, Web 2.0 is a perceived transition of the web to web applications. Web 2.0 is the next generation of technology solutions where interactive content is the norm. There is no agreement on exactly what Web 2.0 means, depending on who you are speaking with, you may receive different explanations. At it's heart, Web 2.0 is about the maturity of the Web and businesses that are thriving online. While many refer to Web 2.0 as companies that employ powerful web technologies, the key components of the new web are said to include: the web as a platform, collaboration, and syndication.
