I have always been on dialup for internet. I have been on the internet for 15 yrs or so. We kinda live in the sticks here so fiber and dsl not around here, now 30 miles away it is but here nope. For anyone never working on dialup...it is pure torture! I learned to do almost all my file transfers at bedtime, not that it was faster it just saved my nerves and husbands ears. It was a nightmare.

Some of the portfolios I go through here at DC don't like dialup much so it made the portfolio review a very time consumming thing when some of the portfolios would take a very long time to load a page or even indavidual pages of designs. I'm not complaining at all because I didn't know how fast the internet could realy work. I love reviewing portfolios (DC has some outstanding designers)

Well I am happy to say now that I am HIGH TECH and moving through the DC halls faster than ever! Friday we had Hughesnet installed. Hughesnet is sattelite internet. We have a dish up on the roof near where our dish is for TV. The internet dish is a bit larger than our tv dish. I understand that this is not as fast as fiber but geez I can't believe how fast this is. I have several windows (just checked 7 different websites...LOL) up at the same time plus illustrator and photshop up and running.

The price is good 59 bucks a month, we will be saving quite a bit. No more land line phone and we had two phone lines that is 90 bucks a month plus I cancelled my aol service. So just in that we are ahead!

I know I am rambling here but I never knew what missed.

Good for you sharie!

I kinda know who you feel. For years I had dial up at home and didn't let it bother me because at work we have a very fast connection so when ever I needed to upload or download anything large I would just take care of that at the office but after 5 years on dial up at home we upgraded almost 3 years ago and life is so much better!

It allows me to do more freelance work by uploading my files to clients in the middle of the night (that's when I design all my fun projects). You must be in heaven with your faster connection. :)

super lol! .. dial up ... i thought it was just a myth :)). Kiddin, I admire you for not "snap!"-ing . i never had to use dial-up, but i experienced a little low internet speed. Especially in my first year of college , 11 years ago, back then the speed was very poor indeed, but ... Quake2, Broodwar, Heroes2 and a local area network , who cared about internet anyway (or the college).
Enjoy the speed!
