Obviously for logoes you will always need to produce them in vector format. Other than that it depends on what yoiu are doing. I do my websites in illustrator first and then import them to photoshop

I would agree that Illustrator is the best for logos.

I do all illustration/creation in Illustrator. I reserve Photoshop for photomanipulation. I do MOST layout in InDesign, unless it's single page item, then I use Illustrator.

To be completely honest about this......how in the world does any designer expect a client, contestholder to worked a photoshop vector file made up of masks and with tons of layers to make the file 84 mb! No way will a client understand how to work this type of file. If you are not creating an eps file that is editable, meaning everything, no masks, no effects, no photoshop files filled with masks, then do not enter the logo contests. I have to fix this and to be honest I am tired of it, come on designers, our rules are clear and easy to follow

Logos and vector illustrations, basically anything that needs to be very clean and controlled is best achieved with Illustrator. However loosely put together things, pictures, effects general manipulation is definitely more fun in Photoshop.
