The Hermes is nice. It's edgy yet classy at the same time. Kind of true regarding the put it everywhere It has it's good and bad. Good as in you create a style that you always follow and people can associate that to you.. Bad is that looks like you only have 1 style but, nevertheless.. designers are very versatile in terms of style.

My absolute favorite that I always find a use for is Franklin Gothic. It's very professional but can easily be used in laid back projects as well. I love the boldness - especially Franklin Gothic Heavy.
I like Skia.
It is classy and still has some historical feel to it.
Arial and myriad pro, both are very flexible, and with some changes you can use them almost everywhere.
Times new roman

You could make a decent living using only Garamond. I often use Minion or Din. With its high x-height and perky serifs, Utopia really turns me on.
Myriad pro, Arial, Times New Roman
Ealing OT is my favorite now but I also like Palatino for such things as newsletters and brochures.
