    Hello

Hi All, my name is Luke. I just joined up recently and I am working on getting a half-way decent portfolio set up online. I am an engineer by trade but my love has always been art - drawing, painting, graphic design - and I haven't spent nearly enough time on those things the past few years. I am looking to expand from hobby to some part-time professional work and this site seemed like a great opportunity to explore and gain some constructive criticsm. I am a big fan of team logos and uniform design (anyone here a uniwatch reader?) as well as sports imagery.

Looking forward to seeing all the creative minds gathered here have to offer!

Yeah, I had a few concussions playing HS football and skiing - I had to quit football to avoid any lasting damage that might have affected my academic career. So 'concussion' is one of the words that sort of defines me. I am still trying to think of a solid "storefront"-type name for any design business I may pursue, and I may stick with the head injury theme if I can come up with a good logo. My graphic style tends to be bold and sharp, so the knock-out theme seems logical...

Welcome Great spirit for starting here. I would love to see some of your work if possible, I got some good suggestions from other users when I posted mine. It's very useful.

I also have found, at a point in my life, that my road was graphic design and am now working very hard to make this possible. I wish you all the best.

    Cheers

I think concussion design would be a great name to go by. Along with your other reasons it also gives the feeling of hip and edgy. Good luck. feel free to post up any ruff logo drafts in the critique area. Works In Progress - Design Contest Forums

Not a great way to present a portfolio, but I uploaded some of my more artistic stuff here:

Any suggestions on a better hosting service would be appreciated.

Backstory on the shark - I designed that for my fraternity and sold a bunch of sweatshirts featuring that logo to the other members. There was interest from other chapters of the national fraternity, so I started marketing them and sold a few before I recieved a cease-and-desist letter from the licensing firm that represents just about every national greek organization. I had applied for a copyright but was rejected - I think I filed incorrectly - but I see no reason why the design is not a novel concept. The national fraternity does not have any logos even remotely similar, and does not use a shark as a mascot. Anyway, I think the giant law firm sends out intimidating letters in an effort just to ensure they are getting their cut of the licensing fees. This is an unfortunate practice that really stifles creativity. I have seen a lot of great design work on greek shirts, flyers, posters, etc. In the eyes of the licensing firms, these are all violations that diminish the brand identity of the national organization.
