Thanks for your inputWhat type of extraordinary format did you have in mind, maybe your idea will start the next contest!
well, I was initially thinking of a banner, say, 468 x 60 px...
and why not a poster with fized size?
Tiff, it has been decided that the velentines contest will be a card, please visit the new thread and looking forward to seeing your entry. There will always be at least one contest running so, if you would like to see a contest for a banner, you could come up with a suggestion as to theme of the banner you think others would be interested in participating in. Everyones input is always welcome and appreciated, jojomarie
I just thought I'd give some ideas on future competition that arent so "usual". These are ideas for the media, not the theme:
Design some wrapping paper/a wrapping paper pattern.
Design a stationary set, both notepaper and envelope.
Design some box art for a product.
Design a book cover.
Design a CD cover for some software.
Design your "perfect" house.
Design a new stamp.
"Invent" something and draw it, saying what it is and what it does.
Design a poster for a movie.
These are a few things I thought would be different from the usual same ole same ole, and would be refreshing to do for the designers![]()

Thanks Illumina for the great suggestions! They will definitly be used inupcoming contents,![]()
Just another suggestion. I was thinking about real design jobs and how you really have to work with a lot of restrictions and still come up with something good. I personally do these contests to enhance my skill. It might be interesting to give a number of criteria that seem very restrictive when first looked at and see how many different designs can come from a simple foundation. For example, say the project was to design a cd cover for an imaginary band, the restrictions could be that you could only use blue and green and numbers to design the cover. Those aren't the best examples, but this is just off the top of my head.
That is a really good suggestion, There will be new a new contest starting very soon. We will try to mix your ideas into a few others as well. Thanks for your help.![]()
hi everybody..![]()

i think its going to be a good one...

yeah, OS GUI design would be a great idea, but it is quite complicated and might require longer time and more discussion than a usual contest. What would you guys think if this contest would run for a couple of months along with shorter ones?
my suggestion for one of the next contests is design of a absolutely useless device (well, the idea is not very original, but it could still be fun!)
hi
well the OS GUI can be run for a longer time but for at most 2 months may be its enough time for it. Secondly i suggested it to be designed in a very different approach not used recently by anyone OS GUI yet....it can be funny too and has no limitations.
so why no give it a try....
some suggestions for the OS name:
1.Revolution
2.DEJAVOUS
hmm thats all what i can think at the moment...u guys give it a try with some funny namez thx
bye

Lets try to make a comic hero...wat do u say?
secondly another idea is to develop some animated comics revolving around this hero....the animated short movie will be developed by a team (2 or 3 members group up) or even by single designer
HoWZ tHat?
take care

Just an idea!... a community contest for DC homepage. For me it didn't have that first impression look ("wow! this is it!!! I'll let DC designers handle my projects") ... Also, the guy doesn't have a designer or even programmer look/style - (he seems to be a disco goer who passed-by cyber cafe and found a good lap-top to try)..he, he.. just me two cents
OR maybe another idea for DC.net logo????
Thanks for allowing us to share.
Geek
geek, thanks for the idea! You are right, we need to redo the layout for the frontpage and probably the skin for the forums as well, but it is going to be a contest with a prize, because it really is a lot of work. And we are working on getting this money. So when we come up with the amount needed we will post this contest. As for the logo, I think it should stay the same.
Hey all,
I have an idea for a contest. I enjoy cycling alot and would like to see what we can come up with as a cycling team logo. It has to be something that is easily printed on jerseys as well as a number of other products ranging from water bottles, to t-shirts, to stickers and other such things.
There is only one requirement, the logo must include a dragon of some sort.
What do you guys think?
Casper
Casper, I think if you want to make a logo for your team, the Charity section would suit the purpose best. This place is for more abstract projects.

I didn't mean to make a logo for a specific team. Most definitely not for a team that I may be on. I just thought this might be a subject that others might not have much experience with, and as such it might generate some interesting input, and in doing so expand the vision of all of us. But if I crossed a line here I apologize wholeheartedly.
On a related note; just how abstract does a topic need to be? I would like to contribute to this community as much as I can.
Casper
abstract in a way that it could not be used for commercial purpose.
Okay, that is a bit clearer, I can see now what you mean by abstract, and the non-commercial use makes sense, but isn't that a bit problematic? I mean couldn't we sell anything we create here? Like a Valentines card or a screensaver?Originally Posted by resurepus
I am not trying to be argumentative here, but what makes one idea less commercial than another?
I do have another idea for a community contest though.
What about a calendar style contest? Run it monthly and each month we all submit what that month means to us?
I bet that would get some very interesting results.
What do you guys think? I am sure you will need to add some specific rules but I personally think it would make for a good abstract competition.
