    New Logo, suggestions please

    Hello all -

I designed a new logo for one of the companies I do work for. I was going for something youthful, simple, modern with a sporty-ish feel.

I know Revelation means to reveal, the vision, future - but what do you guys think? To sporty? Not technical enough for a web design - print - and marketing compnay?

For those who dont like it, what other suggestions do you have?

Also, what other colors might look nice?

    Thanks for the feedback.

It's very nice elab, but I believe it looks more like a sporting clothes (skate/surf) logo (like Rip Curl or Rusty for example).

elabdesigns — Nice logo! I would get rid of the second 'r' so that it's revelation. Right now it looks like Rrevelation. I really like that big R. And the type face matches beautifully!

    Excellent!

Excellent! The second one works very well! Feels complete. 3rd one is a little hard to read at first but works. Great job E-laborate!

I would try the 3rd "R" with the 2nd "evelation". Also, placement of "studio" seems kinda weird to me, but I'm not sure where I'd put it. Just try different places, I guess. Looking good, though!

I like it a lot but it's true that it's maybe too sporty, for my part the third one is the best

It's cool. Maybe too sporty but one has to risk sometimes and create a different corporate identity than people expect. Those are the companies who get noticed and have success most of the time...

Thanks for all the comments, here's a different look

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!

I'm starting to agree with those who say its too sporty. I like what BrianWakeland said about being different. The company likes the logo but I fear it may look to "apperalish" like some have said.

So with the said here is a more high tech look. Keeping it simple.

Let me know what you think. Which direction do you like more?

    Thanks!

If I was the designer, maybe I would look at the 2 logos and choose the one I find more appealing and beautiful (the first one, in red) and I wouldn't give a sh*t about it "being too sporty".

But that's me! Everyone is different, and every designer has its own personality when creating.

I tend to care more about it being cool or not, and letting the corporate coherence for 2nd or 3rd place. Some see this as the main thing in a logo, and I understand! So...it's really up to you..

Well said. Well said indeed. You put things in my perspective. Now its getting the client to understand the meaning of cool. LOL!

Thanks BrianWakeland for the much appreciated comments.

Oh yeah.... the client... that's the toughest part. Usually clients tend to follow the "coolness" rule to evaluate work - but when I get clients who think they have the background to question the significance of what the work sugests, as you may know, there are 2 ways: either you play along and do what the client wants, or you try to re-educate the client's marketing vision by showing that you can be trusted as a designer (since you made a pretty cool logo ).

The second option is very dangerous and the first one is more correct, but not as fun/exciting

Logos use to mean something, or have certain shape by which an especific category is identified. If you do something that looks like a surfing co. logo, you will people who has certain standards to doubt, and to find out what you really are... a designer or a surfing co. CEO. That's the way I see it.

elab, don't get me wrong, the first logo looks very cool, but if you want to make something different, it should be inside a range. Innovation does not mean doing something completely different. There are lots of designers that succeed doing thing completely different things to others, but that keep certain category standards.

I'm not trying to be offensive at all, I hope you get my point of view.

edit: sometimes changing the color does it, try working in the first one that looks nice.

The first logos not bad... I dont think it needs the red stroke on the outside - you don't see that much anymore in logos. I think it has better potential without it. As for the typeface; I would definetly go for something a bit simpler - clean typography. The font youve chosen makes you look too "showboaty". Like youre trying to impress everyone right away. Right now its competing with the logo for attention - which is fairly "showboaty"; but that's probably ok.

Just choose a nice, legible typeface that doesn't compete with the logo (and certainly don't incorperate it in the logo! ie. Revelation) and youll get a more corporate, designerly look. Also - avoid adding flashy photoshop effects to your logo until youre sure you have a good design concept.

elabdesigns — the most important element is to see what message the client wants to convey about "revelation studio." What we do know is that they want youthful, simple, modern, sportish feel. What product(s) do they produce? Who is the audience? How does your client want to be seen in the publics eye? Once these questions are answered, you'll have a successful logo, no matter what.

    its nice

It kinda makes me think of a skateboard logo. Which isn't bad, its fresh and youthful. When I think of revolution, I definatly of "coming full circle" and I don't really get that from your logo. Its a wave-- with a beginning and ending... revolutions come in multiples. Just some thoughts. But its definatly cool.
