Start by using another color wouldnt be so bad. I would try red like you got there in the background. And maybe make it smaller a bit and make some space between each other?

Good thing you asked. I honestly just about didn't realize that there were any nav links there at all. They look sort of like one big word - "what a strange name for a blog", I thought
I wouldn't rely on separating space explicitly with lines like that. You need to give separate elements room to breath, and the viewer's eyes will naturally separate them on their own.
