Here is a logo on the works tell me what you think. Top you see a label pointing a part of the ruler to say what is the grading on the ruler. Shopruler is a review site of other shops.

I really like it only thing is the lable kinda lookes like a pencil.

Hand with pointing finger or arrow pointer are bit overused online site logo's that is way too much of a cliche.

Will explain it further down more Ruler means 2 things a ruler to measur plus the one who rules , like a king. It is a review site with visitor writing review so also voting shops. So the label looking a bit like a pen makes it have more to do with voting.

The overal not making it into an actual ruler is because a ruler is pretty negative object it is a tool to measure things how ever it is also a tool of punishment. Making the label be partial ruler I had tried to but you get a whole feel if it is a bestbuy logo added a ruler part.

And using a measure tape is too feminine object plus it is not an actual ruler.
So best option I saw is to show only the measure lines on of a ruler. To show a shop I use a label which also point on a certain spot of the measure lines.

Any comments on the placing or colors?

It would be better to leave some white space, so the logo can "breathe". Also this arrow you are trying to get, really looks like pencil, you can try working on the upper end of this "arrow" ;-) Also you have realy strong outline there, and its kinda HEAVY and not harmonic.

About the colors - well with the blue color, the arrow becomes even more heavier.

Btw you can try putting different outline for the actual ruler ( i mean the bigger ones to be 'bolder' than the small ones ;-)
The best design decisions are simple, because they don't contain elements that are not necessary... and contain the necessary elements in a way that looks logical...

the stroke on the white versions of the tab is a bit harsh. (too bold)
maybe lighten it one or two notches.

i also saw it as a pencil instead of a label. i thought it was some type of carpenter or contractor business. what if u replaced the label with a building to represent the shop? what if the ruler extended to the full length of the company name?

I like the color combo of the middle design. What if the tag was solid and not outlined? I think that will help it look more like a tag and not a pencil. Also, you could try making the tag a little wider so it is not as slim as a pencil. (I do think you could leave the width as is if you make the tag a solid color with the hole punch knocked out.)

Have you tried the tag to the left or right of the center? I think it looks fine where it is -- just wondering how it might look with the tag off-center.

A building doesn't represent a shop it just represent a building or houses, and not shops. A shop is more towards a label or shoppingbag. Putting the ruler full straight don't make it flow together and set it more apart.

At ROT giving it space doen't work, because it will then look too much apart and looks like that they are 2 loose objects. And also doesn't looks like it is together. Not sure what you mean with it is heavier with the color blue.

KDZN was also things of not using a outline need to look into that. But had tried placing the tag differently on the sides bit it looks very unbalanced that way.

Will look at the logo futher, but actually I am not really all behind the company because it is setting up a review site for shops while there are already allot and I did research on that most people nowadays don't use and trust review sites because of allot of fake reviews made by the shops them self to show up better in the list. And most people rather look at forums with real time talking to people which is more a relief then having bots posting fake reviews.

I agree with making the pointer a little less pencil like. Maybe just a '>' would work.

Keep the stroke size consistent. Don't complicate simplistic logos with a hierarchy.

Also, make sure the space between objects is consistent
Look at the spacing between 'u' & 'l' (shopru><ler) and use it for everything else.
