    Help w/ Illustrator

Hey Guys I have a problem and I was wondering if anybody had any ideas on how to solve it. I'm doing this commission piece on illustrator and it was going well until I remembered that I was going to draw the street w/ cobblestone... now I could just draw random ones to hint at it being there but I was wondering if there was a way to get a texture in illustrator and make it recede realistically into space? ok thanks a ton! oh and crits about the piece itself would be appreciated to, just keep in mind the color isn't done and main focus of the piece is going to be a giraffe and a little boy thx!

I wonder if you put an picture of the texture you want, contrasted a lot in Photoshop and used a trace in Illustrator if that would help you?

I don't have time to test it first but hope it gives you an idea.

    Try using graphic styles...
If you can't find one you like, make a new one!

The piece itself is great! Like you said, it will need more color, but I'm sure you are working on that

    Post it when you're done!

Check out this tut on creating vector textures. This one seems like it would work and doesn't look difficult to follow along with. It uses photoshop for image manipulation to start off with so you have to use more than just Illustrator. Hope this helps.

couldn't use just make a cobblestone pattern fill, fill a box and then use the custom envelope/mesh feature to get the perspective? I think that'd do it.

I think you might get a more realistic feeling of space if you have the the color darken (slightly) as it recedes. I'd also bump the blues/cyans A LOT - especially if you're going to have a giraffe as part of the focus - it'll really make the gold/yellow pop a lot stronger. ou could also consider replacing some of the grays with purples...I know you're still working on color, but you'd be surprised how much depth/perspective you can get (and how much it can help in the rendering part) from color alone. just some thoughts. It looks good - can't wait to see the finished piece!

I am new here and was inspired by your dilemma. I tried to warping an object with the Adobe fill patterns, but because they are fills based on vector files, not the vectors themselves, it wont work.

The only solution I have is to make the brick pattern yourself, then replicate it to as many as you need. Go to illustrators 3D feature of rotate and rotate it into perspective and see what you get. I tried it quickly and was able to put one point perspective on a series of squares I had drawn and duped.

    Good luck!

the easier way would be to make a pattern - expand it and warp it
