Do I have what it takes to become a design team member? I have been casually making vector graphics for a little while. You can check out my website, Vivid Vector here. Well the first thing I noticed is that you don't have enough logo work... (which was why I didn't make it my first time applying)

Yes I agree. I have not yet applied to become a design team member because I don't think my portfolio is strong enough. Is there anything you recommend me to do to become a better designer?

In my opinion and from what I've learned at school, the single greatest way to become a better designer is to look at design CONSTANTLY. Look at what is current, who's doing what and whats new in the industry. Sites like Behance Network :: Galleryis a great place to find inspiration on all things design.

Good idea, I should definitely do that! Unfortunately the road to med-school is throwing a wrench in the mix - I don't have a hole lot of time to stay current, but when I have some precious free time it is fun to look around =) Thanks!

Like KHDZN said, - a lot of practice, in fact you'll be practicing through your whole life. The same importance carries the capability to go beyond the limits of your mind - a.k.a. creative thinking (: But you look like an artistical soul to me, you'll manage it in time.

Thanks! I appreciate the complement.

1) If your blog serves as your portfolio, I would only post original concepts or designs. That's not to say that you cannot use the tips and tricks from a tutorial to accomplish those designs. I just would not post a design if you cannot claim it as your own.
2) I do look at tutorials and other designers for inspiration and tricks of the trade. I always want to learn more. Tutorials are good practice for anyone. Design articles and conferences are good too if you want to stay on top of trends, etc.

Good luck in your endeavors—sounds like you'll be busy for the next few years in school!

Hey Paul,

If design is what you love then do it. Keep at it like everyone says...practice practice practice. Engulf your life into design. When you look at magazines, books, websites, ads, look at whats catching your eye. How the elements are placed on the page, the colors used to convey the message back to the reader.

Everyone's always developing their eye. Don't get discouraged and do not let anyone tell you that you will never become a designer.

Designers do not necessarily have to be amazing drawers/artists. Designers are structured and there is a method to our madness or designs
