Logo problem

This is logo I've been working on, a publishing house that is most famous for its bilten about law. The name roughly translates into Official Messanger/Journal/Herald. I also included some sample color variants.
I must say that it looked much better when I first sketched it, but now I get the feeling that something is missing.
Help?

actually I'm really digging the design of the bird/book thing.
I like colors matching the solid text. like the black and whit in the middle of the first image. and the all blue w/ the black background.

I think what might be a little off about it is that the txt is all nice and straight while the bird has a very rough outline. maybe if you smoothed it out? anyways I really like how you made the right wing look like a bunch of papers. very nice!

try to fill with colours those pages, move the logo on top or think about round edges
(anyway, your ideea is good but you have to work more on the expression)

I like the concept of the bird, but I feel it needs to have more substance. Line art alone doesn't seem to be working. Also maybe play around with the scale of the bird relative to the text, and rethink the curved line under the text. Just my 2 cents. It's an excellent start.

maybe the letter should have the same arc form, like the underline... this ill help to not broke the curve design i think

Try some tighter kerning on the first two characters of the second word.

Yes. I had trouble finding good cyrillic font, though I think I found the right one yesterday.

I made the lines of the bird thicker and smoother while I kept the page lines thin. It gave the logo the feel I wanted along with the new fonts I applied.
I don't have it with me since I am not at home but will post it in a day or two.
You got me thinking about the line-while the logo could stand on its own without it I kind of like how gray paired with blue.

I think that is a really good solution. A lot of times the key seems to be playing with the negative space and having nice solids. The stack of messages is even brought out more in this version.

logo and text look great! good job! not so sure about the line but hey as long as you're happy

Nice improvement! The symbol looks better with some solid color and the font seems more appropriate too.

Would color in the remaining wings instead of leaving them with an outline. Make then colored and make some spaces between them. Outline are problematic when you use them this thin also consider what would be the smallest size you would use this logo and print it out if you will could see the outline if not you can better alter the design.

I agree with Chung Dha. You did an excellent job of restoring balance to the design by making the "bird" solid. As Chung Dha suggested making the "pages" solid - appearing as wedges of blue, would resolve any issues the thin lines would present. With these edits, the underline stroke would not compliment the strong logo.

use progression.....vary the weight of the stroke that creates the pages to try and bring out depth. I always try to look at the real object and study the neg/pos relationship.
