I refer to the processor, motherboard, hard drive, RAM, monitor etc.
Eventually a total average price. Thank you!

I just recently purchased an ASUS g75v Republic of gamers with a 16RAM, 3gb dedicated video card, 750gb memory and i7 processor. Those kinds of specs are perfectly ideal for design and video rendering if you can afford the price, which compared to Mac prices is not that painful. It's a 1,500 $ investment and its been known for durability.

If you are looking for a start-up PC then anything above i3 processor and 2GB RAM should last for a decade at least. Of course, if you have a lot to spend then you can go for high-end ones, which also will last for the same period of time!

This is my PC configuration, but I work a lot in 3ds MAX and After Effects.

CPU: Intel I7 2700k (4,6GHZ)
Cooler: Noctua NH-D14
Mainboard: Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN 3
Memory: Corsair Vengance 16GB 1600Mhz
Graphics: Asus GTX 550Ti
HDD: SSD Corsair Force Series GT 90GB
PSU: Corsair Silent Pro Gold 700W
Case: CM Storm Trooper

For Photoshop and Illustrator is enough anything above I3 processor like EmLiam said.

if we were back in the 80's then this would really matter.. lol.. Now days the computers have so much power that anyone will do so long it is not 3 to 5 years range. Newer the better.. For actual CPU I would not buy used unless you really trust the person or have some kind of return if product fail.. Which is rarely the case no 3rd party seller will warrant the product they are selling. Im talking about buying used.

I run on mac ever since the classic and 2e was out.. yeah how times have changed.

As mentioned before any computer now days will pretty much handle what Adobe can offer..

UNLESS you are one who has tons of effects and filters then yes go get all the ram and HD space you need. I dont know to much about pc chips but macs have multi chip mboards , as far as I know its up to 4 processors that you are capable of running.. Which is good for apps for 3D rendering like Maya m 3D Max and Poser.

Thanks for Acorsys configuration.
While you're competing with me I'm glad you're from Romania like me.
For 3d Max you say this configuration is good? I'd also like to learn more from 3dmax.
I am interested in how much it costs your configuration.
A question: only 90GB HDD?
Thanks anyway!

I am on a dual core / 4 gb ram / 2 gb graph card desktop now, but planning to upgrade to a i5 or i7 laptop with 17" display and dedicated graphic card in the future. Even i think it will be hard not to work on my 24" monitor, but that i can keep and connect the laptop to it maybe?

It depends on what you are doing with your PC exactly. If you are just using Photoshop, Illustrator, 2D design etc, then you will not need a powerful PC at all. 4-8GB of RAM, a decent dual-core 2.5-3GHz processor, 60GB of RAM, mediocre cheap discrete graphics card with OpenGL support. Self-built and all parts bought separately, this will cost you as little about $400 including the OS.

You can also buy a pre-built system from Dell, HP, Gateway, etc, for $300-400 but it might be a little less optimized. (eg. they like to configure you with huge completely unnecessary HDD space and give you an otherwise slow computer).

If you are doing 3D work like on 3Ds Max, Maya, etc; or if doing video work such as with Premier or After Effects, then the requirements jump up. More RAM, quad- to 8-core processor with 3-4GHz, more HDD space, slightly better graphics card are then needed. I estimate maybe a $500-$800 price range for self-built; $1000-$1500 pre-built.

Edit: I wanted to include one other thing. If you are a professional working with 3D or movie rendering a lot and want the best, then you will need a graphics card specifically made for those kinds of things. Workstation cards like the Nvidia Quadro 6000 can run you up to $4200. Doubt you're looking for something like this, but thought I should give it a mention.

Well, since I don't work in maya/3DS (yet!) I will go with a i3. I really want to buy a notebook so that I can work anywhere inspiration comes along. Haven't decided yet, but i think i will go with a 17" one even if it's heavier.

I'm using a powermac G5 dual core which I got from ebay. It's prehistoric compared to those i7 and intel based macs but it works perfectly for me since I'm not doing video editing. Plus it looks exactly like those expensive mac pros (aesthetically.:)).
